Introduction:
Good Evening Refuge Youth:
We have entered into a Sermon Series called Mission.
These next 3 weeks we will go through the heart of Refuge Youth and the vision that God has given me for this group.
Last week we talked about how Jesus wanted to provide salvation for everything.
Tonight we will talk about His approach towards sinners.
Jesus loves sinner and wants them to know Him so they could have their lives changed.
(prayer)
How can we reach the lost in Manteca California.
Few Facts About Manteca:
1.) Manteca is not interesting
2.) Manteca is Hot
3.) Manteca needs Jesus
4.) Manteca has potential
Manteca has potential to see the greatest revival ever. Revival use to be in this church years ago and I believe God has molded me through all these experiences, and pastors in order for God to move a powerful way in this place.
In other for that we need to learn how to reach the lost in our campuses.
Let’s all turn to
Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Jesus was walking along and saw Levi who is also known Matthew.
1.) Invitation
1.) Invitation
Jesus said these two words that completely gained people.
Follow me.
Jesus gave an
1.) Invitation:
He invited Levi to follow Him.
What does that mean to us today?
Listen, In order for people to come over we need to give an invitation.
But what if they reject me?
But what if they get annoyed?
But what if they don’t like you?
Sometimes It takes somebody once in order for them to follow you.
Sometimes it takes infinity times for someone to follow you.
Invitations are powerful and it will show people that you care and that you really enjoy where you are at.
Invitations are powerful and it will show people that you care and that you really enjoy where you are at.
If our Youth Group is full of drama then kids are not going to come.
If you not being excited and having others excited then we are just going to be stuck in this place.
We have leaders here ready to love on kids and to train and equip them to follow God.
But in order for us to get there is we need to Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
A great element we need in order to be effective in our witnessing could we found in

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
This was when Jesus called the disciples that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.
We could do whatever it takes but it is the Holy Spirit’s job to give you power.
When it comes with everything I do that I know it’s going to affect people I ask the Holy Spirit to baptize me with power.
My passion is cultivated by power.
In order for us to be passionate to reach people for Jesus is to understand that we cannot do it with our power but with what the Holy Spirit can only do.
Us as Humans we are not like God but we are chosen to be vessels for God to be a witness to the world.
We need this power so we could be a witness in Jerusalem (High School), Judea and Samaria (Manteca) then all the ends of the earth.
When we go back into the passage:
As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
Levi was a tax collector
This means when he collects taxes, He decided to charge the person extra for his personal gain.
Can I be honest?
We care so much about who people are that it creates this mindset that they are untouchable.
I want to be able to reach anyone and everything.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
That whoever believes in him.
This means the scared, hurtful, the jokers, the football players, the rudes, any label that has been established by the culture.
Jesus wants them to be restore, renewed, and changed to become a new person.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
But before all that happens. Before change can be done. We need to reach out.
We need to start telling our friends to come, to follow us.
It starts with an invitation.
When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

2.) Judgemental
Does following Jesus demand me to not be with my friends?
This is one of the questions that I have struggled with when I first became a new believer in my junior year.
I remember hearing the term “set apart”
But when I understood it by saying getting rid of my friends. But really this is what the verse meant.
Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
This was revolving about myself and God.
I needed to be set apart for God to mold me in my personal relationship with Him.
I took it to the extreme.
I got rip of everything, if I was to look back I wish I could have used them as tools to gain people to Christ.
Instead of cutting of my connection with my friends I should had kept being persistent on inviting them.
I had the attitude of a Pharisee: why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?
Why are you still hanging out with your friends? Don’t you know their sinners, you need to cut them off and go to church. That was my mindset.
Why are you still hanging out with your friends? Don’t you know their sinners, you need to cut them off and go to church. That was my mindset.
Now my whole mindset is broken and replaced with this thought of mind.
Who is the influencing matter, You or your friends?
Just because your friends are sinners doesn’t mean you need to let them influence you.
Jesus was hanging out with sinners but with a purpose.
Paul demonstrates us to be examples.
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
While we are pursuing God daily in our lives, our goal is to give an example of our friends.
While they have bad habits it does not mean we need to follow those habits.
Just because I know a couple of my friends have huge party mouths, Doesn’t mean I need to go and be a party mouth.
While i’m going to parties and hanging out with family, I do not need to be drinking, smoking, and doing what they do.
I respectfully say sorry I can’t do that.
Just recently I went to Safeway to get flowers for my girlfriends birthday.
The cashier was only 19 and I’ve known her for 3 years.
When I told her that my girlfriend and I are the same age she was like what!?
You should go ahead and buy me a drink.
I had to say no, not because I don’t do that but because I am trying to set an example for everyone around me.
In the midst of darkness you need to become a light for people.
It starts with your example.
Because of Jesus we are able to overcome temptation and to stay in our relationship with God while engaging with lost people
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
3.) Opportunities
3.) We are here for the sick.
How can we accomplish this goal for this year of 2018-2019
Jesus was there for the sinners that need a doctor.
God has given me some vision on how we could do this.
