Why is the Holy Spirit Important in Our Lives?

#

1. It is Necessary for salvation

John 3:4–7 KJV 1900
4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
When an individual ask Jesus into their heart something supernatural takes place.
God not only forgives that person of all the sin they have committed
God also cleanses them from all unrighteousness
God looks at the new believer just as if he or she has never sinned.
when we ask Jesus into our lives, He comes in and take up residence.
In other words; God moves in!
And it is nothing that you and I do to deserve it; It is the gift of God;
It is up to each individual to receive that gift
Titus 3:5 NKJV
5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
You and I are renewed by the Holy Spirit.
We have been made brand new by the Holy Spirit.
We have been made brand new because of the washing and cleansing of salvation and because the Holy Spirit comes in and gives new birth to our spirit.
Bottom line is; you and I are made new because of the Holy Spirit
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
We are different inside because of God’s cleansing power and His Spirit is alive within us>
The old life is gone and the new has come because we are now living in Christ.
We were once dead in sin, but now we are alive in Christ.
Thank God; that old things have passed away
Thank God; that His Spirit lives in me
Thank God ; that all things have been made new
Thank God I am dead to sin and I’m alive in Christ.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galati
Why is the Holy Spirit Important in Our lives?

1. It is necessary for Salvation

2. The Holy Spirit Makes our Salvation Real

Many times the enemy or even our own doubt will tell us that we are not really saved.
That our sins are not forgiven or guilt and shame will try to take over our lives/
This is spiritual warfare
Satan attempts to discourage us.
But thank God That He sent the Holy Spirit to live in us so that we can fully experience the free gift of salvation.
God dis not only forgive us of our sins, but He lives in us through the Holy Spirit
I want to look at this real quick of what this means for us as born again believers .
I want to look at several ways the Holy Spirit helps us
The Holy Spirit helps us to understand what salvation really means for us
1.
1 Corinthians 2:12 NKJV
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
The Holy Spirit is so important to believer in that He will help us to understand the things that have been freely given to us in Christ.
2. God’s Spirit in us is a guarantee that we are saved.
Ephesians 1:13–14 NKJV
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
Ephe
The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives assures us that we belong to God.
3. God’s spirit helps us guard the salvation that He has freely given us.
2 Timothy 1:14 NKJV
14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
Satan would like nothing more for us to give up and walk away from God, but the Holy Spirit will help us run the race until the end.
4. God’s Spirit helps us walk with God
Galatians 5:16
Galatians 5:16 NKJV
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
If we walk in the spirit we shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. That is a promise of God
5. God’s Spirit helps us pray when we don’t know how to pray.
Romans 8:26–27 NKJV
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
When we are weak and don’t know how to pray, the Spirit himself will intercede for us with groans that words cannot express.

2. The Holy Spirit Makes our Salvation Real

3. The Holy Spirits keeping power:

God not only has the power to save us from our sins, but He has the power to keep us close to Him and keep us from sin.
It was once said that “sin will keep you from the presence of God, and the presence of God will keep you from sin.” We must always be aware that we belong to Jesus and He lives in us.
We have become dwelling places for the very presence of God.
1 Corinthians 6:19
1 Corinthians 6:19 NKJV
19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
When we receive God’s gift of salvation, we accept the fact that; He is going to live in us every moment of every day,
not just on Sundays and Wednesdays or when we pray, or read His word,
but everywhere that we go and everything that we do,
and because He does live in us we can enjoy a close relationship with Him.
When we are mindful of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we understand the keeping power of our salvation.
The Holy Spirit will monitor our heart,
He will keep us from sin if we allow Him to.
The holy Spirit guards our heart from sin like an alarm device.
When we enter into temptation, the Holy Spirit will make us aware to be cautious or flee from the situation.
It is up to us to not grieve the Holy Spirit.
When we are obedient to the Spirit, it will cause us to desire more of God!!!!

2. The Holy Spirit Makes our Salvation Real

3. The Holy Spirits keeping power:

4. The Holy Spirit will show the character and heart of God.

God’s presence in our lives not only blesses us, but everyone that surrounds us.
God has a special way of moving through us to touch and affect others that are in need.
We not only witness to the unbeliever by the life that we live, but we also encourage other believers.
God is looking for people who are willing to do His work and He wants to fill them with His Holy Spirit to enable them to carry out the task at hand.
Galatians
Galatians 5:22–23 NKJV
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
A person who possesses the fruits of the spirit show the character and heart of God.
Love - This person has an unswerving commitment to Christ. They are devoted to their Saviour. Unashamed to show their affection to Jesus, they demonstrate a passion for God by desiring more of God. Their love for God is real because they demonstrate God’s unconditional love to other people.
Joy - This person finds pleasure and delight in Jesus. They are so glad to be a Christian that they are easily satisfied. We as Christians need this character in the church.
Peace - This person is calm in spirit because they find rest for their soul in Christ. Their hearts are not clouded with the issues or the worries of life. They will strive for unity and agreement with others.
Patience - This person keeps composure in the most difficult circumstances. They find peace of mind through their confidence in God and don’t allow circumstances to rule them.
Goodness - This person is decent and honest. They are morally the same no matter where they are or who they might be with. They are a person of integrity and they strive for excellence.
Faithfulness - This person demonstrates allegiance and worship to God through constant devotion. They are loyal in their actions to the Lord. They serve the Lord in the good and the bad.
Gentleness - These people are meek, but not weak. They have a sweet manner about them. They are careful with the feelings of others.
Self-control - These people are composed and stable. Their confidence in who they are in Jesus is reflected in their handling of problems and temptations in life.
Why is the Holy Spirit Important?
Matthew 26:31-34
Matthew 26:31–34 NKJV
31 Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the Shepherd, And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.” 33 Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.” 34 Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”
Matthew 26:
Matthew 26:69–74 NKJV
69 Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a servant girl came to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.” 70 But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.” 71 And when he had gone out to the gateway, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This fellow also was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 But again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man!” 73 And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, “Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.” 74 Then he began to curse and swear, saying, “I do not know the Man!” Immediately a rooster crowed.
Why is the Holy Spirit Important?
The same man that denied Jesus is the same man after being filled with the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost preached:
Acts 2:14-41
Acts 2:14–41 NKJV
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. 15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. 16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: 17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; And they shall prophesy. 19 I will show wonders in heaven above And signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. 21 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved.’ 22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— 23 Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; 24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it. 25 For David says concerning Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before my face, For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue was glad; Moreover my flesh also will rest in hope. 27 For You will not leave my soul in Hades, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’ 29 “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, 31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. 33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear. 34 “For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, 35 Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” ’ 36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.
Why is the Holy Spirit Important?
Billions of souls that have never heard the saving message of Jesus Christ.
Time is getting short.
People are dying without Jesus as we speak.
People in our own community don’t know what it is to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Monday you will encounter a soul that is lost, dying and going to hell if you don’t do what you have been called to do.
You shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you and you shall be my witnesses!!!!!!
We need the Holy Ghost:
Because it is necessary for salvation.
To make our salvation real
To keep our salvation.
To have the character and heart of God.
And, to be witnesses for the Lord!!!!!!
