You cannot have God's grace in salvation and be in bondage to sin!

You cannot have both God's grace, and no progression toward godliness.

1.GODʼS GRACE IS A PERSON 2 GODʼS GRACE IS THE ACTIVE WORK OF THE FATHER Thourgh THE SON 3. GODʼS GRACE HAS SET US FREE FROM THE BONDAGE OF SIN

THIS MORNING

You cannot have both God's grace, and no progression toward godliness.

4. GODʼS GRACE INFORMS US 5. GODʼS GRACE TRANSFORMS US

TONIGHT...

YOU CANNOT HAVE BOTH THE GRACE OF GOD AND A LACK OF LONGING TO SEE AND SERVE CHRIST.

6. GODʼS GRACE PRODUCES A LONGING FOR THE RETURN OF CHRIST

WAITING - means looking and waiting -connotes longing-eager expectation -earnest desire to see him

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

The source of the richness we will have is CHRIST

I LONG FOR HIM…I want to be with him…MY DAD Died…

My main source of longing and joy is not found in the fact that I have loved ones in heaven....but its that CHRIST IS THERE. And where he is...I will also be.

7 GODʼS GRACE BLESSES US ETERNALLY THROUGH THE REAPPEARING

blessed - happy

28so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

GODʼS GRACE GIVE US HOPE IN THE REAPPEARING

Blessed hope, - not a wish

not a watered down hope “hope so” idea of confident certainty the appearing - same root word as in verse 11 phrase often used to describe the divine appearing of Roman Emperors Vs 11 is a verb - this is a noun

-lit. to illuminate, has been made to appear, to shine forth

Definite article - “THE GLORIOUS APPEARING”

Communicates a real, factual, and literal event

Conceptual unity exits between two concepts in this verse.

9 GODʼS GRACE DECLARES GODʼS GLORY of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

-Anytime you two nouns that are not proper nows, but are describing a person

-Two nouns are connected by “and”

-There is a definite article in front of the first now.

-THEN Both Nouns refer to the Same Person

that God and Savior is one and the same person

-The Reason Christ is Worthy of Your life…is because he is God

-The reason He is worthy of your bent knee and confESS of him as Lord is because he is the Risen Lord

-The Reason you should repent, live for him, worship him, adore him, honor him, is because is Worthy of All of those things.

But Lord, 'tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,

The sky, not the grave, is our goal;

Oh, trump of the angel! Oh, voice of the Lord!

Blessed hope, blessed rest of my soul.

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,

The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;

The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,

Praise the LORD Praise THE LORD…OH MY SOUL

10. THE GRACE OF GOD SUBSTITUTES

who gave himself for us -voluntary offering of Christ on the cross

-”for us” on behalf

!  -our nails !  -our beating !  -our insults !  -our crown of thorns !  -our cross

I WANT YOU TO UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF THIS SUBSTITUTION.

We are talking about the

Penal Substitutionary Atoning Work of Christ

-Penal - in that he bore a penalty when he died.

-Substitutionary in that he bore this penalty “for us”

-Christ served as one who stands in the place of another

-Christ stood in our place…taking upon himself the penalty that we deserve.

In This Work Christ solved 4 problems we have as sinners.

As Substitute He met us in our helpless state…meeting the needs We have have a sinners.

1. We deserve to die as a penalty for sin

(He was our Sacrifice… “He appeared once for all at the end of the age to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”)

2. We deserve to bear God’s wrath against sin.

(Propitiation…He romoved from us God’s holy wrath.

- In This is love, not that we loved God, but that he Loved us and sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins.)

3. We are separated from God by our sins.

(Reconciliation…over came the separation between God and man through the Cross

through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation that is in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself)

4. We are in bondage to sin and to the kingdom of Satan

Redemption…we needed to be redeemed out of bondage.

“ for the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many”

Our passage deals in particular with redemption.

1) to redeem us from all iniquity (lawlessness)

-Redeem - We have been bought for a price

2) to purify unto himself a peculiar people (people for his own possession)

-purify - to make clean, or to heal

HOW DO WE LIVE IN RESPONSE TO THAT

11. THE GRACE OF GOD MAKE’S US GOD’S WORKING PEOPLE

people for his own possession

-Word that refers to a private purse. - means a prized possession

peculiar from the word peculium and refers to a private purse. - means a prized possession

who are zealous for good works. Zealous - indicates a high level of intensity by which Christians should pursue good works.

IT IS OUR DUTY AS PEOPLE SAVED BY CHRIST TO BOTH LONG BE WITH HIM AND LONG TO SERVE HIM.

YOU CANNOT HAVE BOTH THE GRACE OF GOD AND A LACK OF LONGING TO SEE AND SERVE CHRIST.

GIVE ME 10 YOUTH…JUST 10…THAT ARE WILLING TO SELL OUT TOTALLY FOR CHRIST....TO LONG FOR HIM…AND TO SERVE HIM....AND ILL SHOW YOU 10 PEOLE WHO WILL TRANSFORM THEIR YOUTH GROUP....THEIR CHURCH…THE SCHOOL...

WORKS ARE NOT THE ROOT OF SALVATION, BUT THE FRUIT OF IT.
