Hebrews 12:16–17 KJV 1900
16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. 17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
Genesis 25:27–34 KJV 1900
27 And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. 28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. 29 And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: 30 And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. 31 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? 33 And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.
-”sod” cooked
“pottage” red colored vegetable stew
“Faint” weak or dizzy
verse 30
“Edom” is the color red. also referred to as Seir father of seven sons and a descendant of Abraham
verse 31
“Birthright”-good word study for sure. tight or privilege belonging to the firstborn son in a Hebrew family. The eldest son ranked highest after the father and in the father’s absence had the the father’s authority and responsibility. It wasn’t until that said they could not give the birthright to a son from a wife he loved over the wife that was loved less. The first born, gets the birthright unless they lost it like Reuben did .
For Esau, the birthright was a burden it seems. In verse 34 it says he despised it.
When we fail to see past today, we tend to make bad decisions.
What have you given up in your life that you wish you still had? Just think about that a minute. The birthright here is a responsibility. Have you ever seen a responsibility that required nothing?
Today we exchange family for money.
We exchange purity for cheap imitations.
We exchange our testimony for a good time.
We exchange God for the world.
1 Corinthians 6:12 KJV 1900
12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
1 Corinthians
In other words just because we can, does not mean we should. Pork is allowed, but we all know when we eat pork, we suffer the consequences.
Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:22–25 KJV 1900
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
-School you learn the lesson and then get tested.
-Life you get tested and then learn the lesson.
Galatians 5.22-
-We all have great spiritual blessings, are we exchanging them for the world knowingly or unknowingly?
-What are you exchanging?
--Family time for money
--Testimony for pleasure
-What will you have to show for your life at the end?
--Spiritually
--Physically
--Emotionally
