To Seek or to Serve?
To Seek or to Serve?
Introduction
Introduction
1. Why do you go to church?
1.To Seek God Is Good
Some seek entertainment
A.One Shoujld Certainly Seek The Lord...
others seek to encounter God
80 percent of people in their 20s said their faith is very important in their lives.
Nearly 60 percent claimed to have made a commitment to Jesus
He is the source of sustenance and strength
105:4
Christ
He is the source of wisdom and understanbding
Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.
God wants us to seek Him
Ac 17:26-27
Jesus wants us to seek first His kingdom and righteousness
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Mt 6
B.One Would Hope to Find God In Church...
Paul wrote about possib le reactions by visitors
So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind? But if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, “God is really among you!”
1 Co 14
We should hope that our services draw people nearer to God, not away from Him.
C.Yet God Is Found In Obedience, not Attendance...
The father and the Son abide with us as we kleep Jesus’ commandments
,
This is how we truly know Jesus and the Father
We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him:
1 Jn 2:3-5
1 Jn
As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
Abide in the doctrine of Christ, and we have both the Father and the Son
God and Jesus are found when we obey Their commands
Such as the comand to Believe
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
He 11:6
I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins.”
Such as the command to Repent
In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.”
Ac 17
Such as the command to Confess
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
Ro 10:9-
Such as the command to be Baptized
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
:16
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
In which we are united with Christ
Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Ro 6:3-4
In which we put on Christ
Ga
for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
When we are saved the Lord adds us to His church
,
D. Then God Can Be Found Anywhere, Anytime...
Even in one’s room, through prayer
