The promise has been filled just as the text has said.

The Power of the Story

Acts 1:1–2 NLT
In my first book I told you, Theophilus, about everything Jesus began to do and teach until the day he was taken up to heaven after giving his chosen apostles further instructions through the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:1
Luke wrote previously of Jesus the Son of God.
Jesus taught about repentance and the kingdom of God.
Jesus taught his disciples that he is the Messiah and Son of God.
Jesus demonstrates God’s love for us by dying on the cross for our sins.
Jesus defeated death by rising from the grave on the third day.
Jesus appeared and showed himself to his disciples and others.

The story’s power and how it can change you.

The Gospel story is the first part of our life.
The Gospel should have awaken us to the power of God in our life.
The gospel shows how God can heal us outwardly and inwardly.

What has Jesus done in your life?

What did he do for you?
What has the taught you?

Wait for what the Father had promised...

Learn to wait for the power of the Lord in your life.
Teach yourself how to wait...
Leave to be at work early and drive in the slow lane.
Chose the long lane in the store to check out.

Matthew 24:34–35 NLT
I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
This echoes
Isaiah 40:8 NLT
The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
God’s word is forever as his his great love for his creation.
Forever God is faithful. - Forever God is true.

This great gospel story tells of God’s love first for us.

We know love because God shows us what love is.
The first part of this book is the telling of God’s love for his creation to send his Son to die for our redemption.
The second part of this book is to show the response to God’s love in our life.

Wait because of Love

Acts 1:3 NLT
During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.

Want to focus on after he suffered and died...

Jesus suffered for our sin...
Isaiah 53:4 NLT
Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!
Isaiah 53:4–5 NLT
4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! 5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
He died to pay our debt and God has placed him above all things.
Isaiah 53:12 NLT
12 I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.
Isaiah 53:12
God’s great love for us is greater than the power of the grave.
Romans 5:8 NLT
8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

God will immerse us in his great power.

The term baptized is to be immersed. .

We should surrender to the overwhelming power of God’s Spirit.

Trust the Spirit and God’s word over yourself.

God’s word is true as we have established and is good for instruction to our life.
The Holy Spirit helps guide us to God’s purpose in our life.
Jesus tells them to wait for the power to come.

Learn how to wait on the Lord.

Isaiah 40:41
Isaiah 40:31 NLT
31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Wait on the Lord and be of good courage.
The Lord’s word is worth waiting for.
Wait on the promises of the Lord and is great power. See the Lord move in your life and see the power of his word and grace move in your life.
