(insert slide - stress definition)
“A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.”
What about anxiety, ever feel that?
(insert slide - anxiety definition)
“A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome.”
Scripture tells us the results of anxiety and cure for anxiety (Pro12:25)
25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, But a good word makes it glad.
And as for those anxious thoughts (Php4:6)
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Stress and anxiety
Stress and anxiety
In our world that has so many demands on our time, our attention, stress is almost unavoidable isn’t it? Stress and anxiety can take our eyes off the Truth and keep us growing in our faith and our trust in God and His Word.
Do you ever feel “stressed out?
How about being anxious or worrysome?
Scripture tells us not to worry (Mt6:25-34); it also tells us not to be anxious (Php4:6); but scripture also gives us a clear picture of stress management (Mt11:28-30).
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
27 “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? 28 “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin,
29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 “But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!
31 “Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 “For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Mt6:29-30
33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Mt6:
Life is more than food and clothing, god always provides
Worry cannot add to your life
God knows you need, so why worry
Seek Him first
Don’t sweat tomorrow
28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
What do you see, what do you notice, what sticks out to you?
Come
Come
Come, sounds easy doesn’t it? Let us break it down to come.
Come to “Me” (Mt19:14; Mk10:21; Lk6:47; Lk14:26; Jn6:35-37)
So what does it mean to come to ME
14 But Jesus said, “Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Come as a child, for the kingdom belongs to such as these
21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”
Come with no holdbacks, no provisions, trust Him and follow Him and you will have treasures in heaven.
Lk10:47
47 “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like:
Come hearing, believing and acting on His Word
26 “If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.
Come putting Him first and foremost before all things; even when it does not make literal sense
35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. 36 “But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.
37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.
Jn6:37
Come to Him knowing he will feed you hunger and satisfy your thirst and will not cast you out!
Come “all” (Jn3:14-15; Rom3:21-23)
14 “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.
Come believing and have eternal life
21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Come knowing that there is no distinction in anyone for all fall short of the glory of God.
Come without “limitations” (2Cor5:17; Rom5:8)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
Come knowing the old is gone the new has come (expand)
It does not matter where you have been; it matters where you are now going!
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Come knowing that while we fall short, while still sinners He died for us.
Come and will give you “rest”
Come knowing the promise He gives and we know He cannot lie, He promises rest.
Take
Take
Take it, go ahead, take what is being offered it will help with stress management.
29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Take My yoke!
Take My yoke!
(expand, yoked to oxen, a team of oxen, Jesus invites us to team up, to partner with Him)
Learn from Him (expand)
Why? I am gentle, humble in heart (Hos11:4; Php2:8)
4 I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love, And I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; And I bent down and fed them.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Even in disobedience, in rejecting Him, He loves and leads with bonds of love, He wants to life the yoke they have. He will do the same for us, so don’t stress about it.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
(Christ showed us, displayed humility)
And you will find rest (Don’t miss the promise here)
YOU WILL FIND IT; it is a promise, it is yours when you partner up with Jesus and take His yoke upon you.
Including, rest for your soul
Rest for the soul, rest for the mind, will, the emotions. (expand on this)

Here comes the application section, learn and apply!
29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Learn, how (Psm119:73; Pro9:9; Php4:9)
73 Your hands made me and fashioned me; Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
Learn from understanding His Word, His commands
9 Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, Teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.
learn by being wise so you may be still yet wiser.
9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Learn by what you received, heard, seen; and then have practiced
Learn, why, yoke easy, burden light, not burdensome (1Jn5:3)
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.
learning His ways are not burdensome, they are the way we display our love for Him in return; He had done that for us by His example
Learn example, Jesus (Php2:5-8)
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
9 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
