Resurection of Christ - Chapter 15 - #2
INTRODUCTION: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 (Not In Power Point) Review Last Week
PROPOSITION: The Resurrection is FACT, not a myth.
TRANSITION: Paul Challenges Us To Follow Two Sources of Evidence that Prove the Resurrection of Jesus!
OUTLINE:
A. Examine The Biblical Record … “According To The Scriptures!” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
1. You cannot have a resurrection without FIRST having a DEATH. JESUS DIED according to the Scriptures! Vs. 3
2. The Old Testament Taught That There Will Be A Resurrection. Psalm 71:20-21; Isaiah 26:19
· People needed to see that the promise of Jesus’ resurrection was distinct from the general references to resurrection.
· At this point in history, the O.T. was the Biblical authority.
· We need to understand the power and weight of prophecy.
3. Two O.T. Passages Explicitly Address The Resurrection of Christ. Psalm 16:9-10 & Isaiah 53:9-11
· Lets take a moment to walk through Isaiah 53:9-11
· Appreciate it when Scripture identifies how Scripture is to be applied. Acts 2:24-39 (Not In Power Point)
B. Listen To The Eye-Witness Accounts. 1 Corinthians 15:5-8
1. Peter – Luke 24:33-35
2. The Twelve – Luke 24:36 (Don’t forget that the 11 chose one to take Judas’ place.)
3. More than 500 at once!
· Well, if you think that Peter & the Twelve are a little too convenient, how about 500+ people at once.
· Don’t take my word for it; most of these people are still alive. Go ahead, check it out.
4. James, Jesus’ brother – James was not a disciple or follower of Jesus until AFTER the resurrection.
5. Then ALL the apostles.
· I am not fully sure who Paul is referring to, but it seems to be different from the Twelve.
· This could be the apostles exclusively, it may also be the 72 messengers that Jesus sent out in Luke 10:1 or it
may also be the larger community of people that followed Jesus over his years of ministry
6. Paul – Don’t take my testimony lightly, because I was not a willing convert. Acts 9:1-19 (Not In Power Point)
CONCLUSION:
Choose Your Response To Jesus
Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He rose from the dead according to the Scripture and there many eye witnesses who saw the resurrected Jesus.
In Light of these things, What Are You Going To Do With Jesus?
You can choose to dismiss the Scripture & Eye witness accounts, or You can choose a STEP OF FAITH!

The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.
