*INTRODUCTION: Beginning of Study of 1 Cor….
“Sanctified in Christ Jesus, Called To Be Holy.”*
*PROPOSITION: How do you need to pursue your Being Holy in your worship of God?*
*TRANSITION: This morning, I would like us to answer three questions and consider two worship principles.*
*OUTLINE:*
*Three Questions - *
*1. **Who is worship for?*
Worship has always been for the worshiper and for God.
A.
Worshipper – *Psalm 1:1-3* (Look at the occurrences of delight in Psalms.)
B.
God – *Psalm 51:10-19; Romans 12:1*
* *C.*
*Corporate* *– *1 Corinthians 11:17ff*
*2. **What is worship about?*
Worship is about God and my~/our right response to Him. *Romans 11:33 - 12:2*
*3. **Who sets the boundaries ~/criteria for our meeting with God?*
God does.
Ex.
Cain & Able – *Genesis 4:1-7*
Ex.
The Nation of Israel – *Exodus 19:9-13* (OT Law)
Ex.
Today – *John 3:16, 14:6; 4:23-24*
· *If we want to Worship~/Meet with God, we must come to Him according to His guidelines, *
* not ours.*
* *
*Two Principles*
*1. **Worship recognizes and accepts God’s order of things.*
· EX.
God has made men & women equal and yet he has also established different roles for us.
\\ (Church & Home)
· We need to confront our sinful tendencies as we respond to the order God has established.
· We will have difficulty in worshiping if we resist the boundaries & order that God has established.
*2.
**Worship both honors and looks beyond cultural boundaries.
*
· Cultures change, but the principles that Guide our worship and the purpose of our worship do not change.
· Symbols and patterns mean something and are important in our culture.
*– 1 Corinthians 11:2-16*
*– Worshipping with the Katukina people.*
· It is difficult to worship God when we are seeking to push the envelope or expand the boundaries.
(When this happens, our focus would probably be more on something else & less on worship.)
*CONCLUSION: *
* *
* How do you need to pursue your Being Holy in your worship of God?*
* ** *
* *
* *
Part of worship is accepting the reality of things
It is difficult to worship God when we are upset over how He has done things.
Order of things
