Galatians 6:11–16 NKJV
11 See with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! 12 As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. 13 For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. 16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
People want Christians to look a certain way.
Illustration: I had a pastor who wanted me to buy new suits so I could look the part.
verse 12 speaks of people who want to make a good showing in the flesh.
Look aren’t everything.
When we put more emphasis on our ability to do and look right we make the cross of no effect
1 Corinthians 1:17 NKJV
17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.
It’s not about your ability it’s about His grace
All we need to know is a Crucified Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:1–2 NKJV
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
1 Corinthians 2:1-2
Looks can be deceiving
1 Corinthians 1:18 NKJV
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Have you been crucified with Christ yet.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
The journey starts at the cross.
Luke 14:27 NKJV
27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.
