Introduction:

Frank Abignale Jr. - His story is presented in the movie starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Tom Hanks entitled “Catch me if you can.”
He is known for his history as a con man, a check forger, an imposter, and confidence man. Between the ages of 15-21, Frank conducted many cons… He traveled all over the world by faking as a Pan-American airline pilot, never paying a cent to fly over 1,000,000 miles and to over 26 countries around the world. For 11 months, he impersonated a cheif pediatrician at a Georgia hospital, without having any medical training whatsoever. At the age of 19, after forging a Harvard University Law Transcript, he actually passed the Louisiana Bar exam and got a job at the Louisiana State Attorney General’s office. Frank would excape from the authorities twice before he was caught, once escaping from a US Federal Penetentiary.
For our purposes, this is where the story is truly interesting, because after serving some prision time in 3 different countries, Frank is now an American Security Consultant and now is a lecturer at the FBI Academy and field offices.
A complete turn around. Once a swindler, now he helps companies protect themselves from the swindler.
Today we have a turn around in our text. The very people who were part of the crowd yelling “crucify him, crucify him” just 53 days before. But in our passage this morning we see 3000 of them, being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. This is a great day.

Confrontation

Peter preached that day,
He pointed them to Jesus, He reminded them of
His person- sent by God with miracles and signs. (as you yourselves know
Acts 2:22 HCSB
“Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.
His plan -
Acts 2:23 HCSB
Though He was delivered up according to God’s determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.
His power -
Acts 2:24 HCSB
God raised Him up, ending the pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.
Acts 2:32 HCSB
“God has resurrected this Jesus. We are all witnesses of this.
His position - Both Lord and Christ.
Acts 2:36 HCSB
“Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!”
This was however, a confrontation because Peter in identifying Jesus clearly to them tells them plainly that “they crucified him” v. 36.
v. 23. “you used lawless people to nail him to a cross and kill him”
We are all God’s enemies.
Romans 5:10 HCSB
For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by His life!

Conviction (v. 37)

They were “cut to the heart” “they came under deep conviction.” The meaning is to be pierced or stabbed, in the heart.
What changed, “they knew he was sent by God
Acts 2:22 HCSB
“Men of Israel, listen to these words: This Jesus the Nazarene was a man pointed out to you by God with miracles, wonders, and signs that God did among you through Him, just as you yourselves know.
“they knew who they were” “They knew that they had yelled
Being aware of sin, and being convicted of sin is not the same thing.
Being aware
Many are aware, but they think that their level of sin is an acceptable level.
Is there mouse fur in your peanut butter? Insect parts? Could be. The FDA says peanut butter can have no more than an average of one rodent hair per 100 grams. (article from CBS 2010)

John 16:8 HCSB
When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment:
Emma suddenly aware of her imperfections and insecurities. She was silent
Know something vs feeling the weight of something.

Crisis

What shall we do?

Call

They once yelled “crucify him, crucify him” would there be any hope.”
There is forgiveness in Jesus Christ
Repent from you resisting of God. Your warring against Jesus and identify with him.
They would identify with him, by being baptized.
Signing Day:
At Signing Day star players are seen choosing the hat.
You have been sought, not by a recruiter, but by God’s grace that seeks to save that which is lost
You have been sought, not because you are the star, you had no skills, you were the waterboy on the rival team that Satan coaches.
Jesus is the star player. He has the victory, He overcame sin, He overcame death. And now, he offers forgiveness to all who would identify with Him, who would believe in His name.
Baptism, then is the public ceremony whereby you publicly made the declaration that you are with Jesus. That he saved you and made you His forever.
