FASTING?

Some of us have many question concerning fasting. Throughout our Christian walk, we may have been inspired to fast or in some case have been asked to join, too fast. However, we may lack the understanding of what it is to fast.
Jesus in the book Mark was questioned why His disciples did not fast like the like of John’s disciples and the Pharisees.
: 18-22

18 The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”

v19. Jesus reply to them was a eye opener for those who enquired. Lets look at whats been presented to us in scripture. 1st, Jesus in some since informs them that He is the bridegroom. Bridegroom?? Represent two things:
1. Christ is the Bridegroom for the church ( NKJV).
2. Christ is the Bridegroom for the church.
2. (In any traditional marriage of the time the bridegroom had to pay for the hand of his bride).
In essence, there is a price to pay to be in relationship with God.
v20. “a time will come when the bridegroom will be taken away and they will fast”.
v22. I particular like how Jesus explains the wine being poured into new wine skins.
