Who is the Author of the Book of Acts? Luke
What do we know about Him? Where in Scripture is Luke found?
gives us is Occupation
gives us his Affiliation
gives us his Characterization
The Third Gospel of Luke and The Book of Acts gives us his Affirmation
He was a Physician, He was a Disciple of Christ, He was a faithful brother, He was a great Historian.
He was not an Apostle. The Apostles were the eyewitnesses of the life and resurrection of Jesus. Christ has many disciples, but he only had 12 Apostles!!
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; and [a]James the son of Zebedee, and [b]John his brother; 3 Philip and [c]Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; [d]James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the [e]Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him.(replaced by Mattatis)
We also know that with the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts which makes up 52 chapters of our New Testament, that’s 1/3 of our New Testament and only next to Paul who also wrote 1/3 is one of the most important writers of the New Testament, with the rest of the book being written by other Apostles and disciples.
So, with all that said that we can know from Scripture what else can we say about this disciple of Jesus: Luke our Author??
He was a humble servant!! He never mentions himself he never cries because his name wasn’t mentioned, he seeks to lift up Jesus and Jesus alone. He seeks to tell the story absolutely for the soul purpose that others may see this One Whom they called Jesus!!
We can actually learn a lot from someone who is not mentioned very much at all in scripture.
From :1to we have a span of over 60 years declaring perfectly the Person, Purpose and Power of our Savior and King Jesus Christ.
The Gospel of Luke is the most comprehensive of all the Gospels and the Book of Acts is the most comprehensive book on church History that you can ever read.
Two great books written by one humble Author, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that we could also say with the Greeks who came to Peter in John chapter 12:21 “Sir we would see Jesus”
The Gospels and their major Themes
