Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.
A. Charge: Imitate God
Imitate God’s love, forgiveness, mercy, compassion, etc.
-These are aspects of God we can strive to imitate
ii. Spread God’s Glory
-Aspects we cannot achieve, we should strive to spread by spreading His Name.
iii. Leave to God; wrath, vengeance, punishment, etc.
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
B. Identity: Children of God
i. Through the Blood of Christ
ii. Changes who we are
iii. As His children we should desire to imitate Him
-Young children desire to be like their parents (Boys/Father, Girls/Mother) We should desire to be like God in such a way.

B. The Model: Jesus Christ
i. Christ gave everything for us
-His blood and death, coming to earth, giving up his heavenly position and authority, perfection to live with sin
a. His sacrifice is called a fragrant offering
b. Obedience is always a fragrant offering to God
ii. We should be willing to give everything to Him
-God may not demand everything from us, but we should be willing to give it.
-Everything needs to be submitted to God, His will and His Kingdom.
-Widow and the 2 coins
Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
-Cain and Abel
Genesis 4:3-
In the course of time Cain brought to the Lord an offering of the fruit of the ground, and Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and his offering, but for Cain and his offering he had no regard. So Cain was very angry, and his face fell.
-Abel gave his absolute best, Cain gave what from something less or what was leftover.
-Do you give God your best or do you give Him the leftovers?
