Spirit filled service in the church prioritizes the Word of God and equips for the Work of God.
The passage flows from prioritizing the word to engaging in the work, all in the context of sowing and reaping. Right doctrine leads to engagement in right actions.
Partnership in the Word (v.6)
Partnership in the Word (v.6)
By Prioritizing the Word
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
If we have sown spiritual things among you, is it too much if we reap material things from you? If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we even more? Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ. Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in the sacrificial offerings? In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.
Because it is powerful. , The word of God is living and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Because it is eternal.
For, “All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you.
1 Pet. 1:
By Supporting the ministry of the Word.
And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only.
Because it is powerful.
Because it is eternal.
The Holy Spirit takes the word and makes it effective in our life.

The ministry of the Word requires participation from both the teacher and the disciple.
The Principle of the Harvest (vv. 7-8)
The Principle of the Harvest (vv. 7-8)
We reap what we sow.
God will not be mocked (turn the nose up at). This is a principle that he has ordained.
Sowing to the Spirit takes place by the Word of God.
Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.
We reap in greater portion than we sow.
Sowing to the flesh bring death, sowing to the Spirit brings life.
We reap in a different season than we sow. Every seed has its own season for bearing fruit.
