Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.

The church is full ideas and ambitions, we should go here, and we need to do this. but we lack the necessary foundation.
One of the most important and misinterpreted of the gospel messages is the message of repentance. Mankind has made many ways to come to God that excludes repentance and turning from his dead ways.
John Wesley wrote a hymn titled Turn, Why Will Ye Die?
Nehemiah 1:9 NASB95
but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place where I have chosen to cause My name to dwell.’

The life of a Christian MUST began with repentance and continue that way.

but if you return to Me and keep My commandments and do them, though those of you who have been scattered were in the most remote part of the heavens, I will gather them from there and will bring them to the place where I have chosen to cause My name to dwell.’

And if you Don't have a relationship with repentance you are not a Christian.
The life of a Christian must began with repentance and continue that way.
I used to say quite often repentance is one of my best friend that lead me always to Jesus.
I look at my life now and wonder do i staill have that attude.
when i first started preaching must of my messages where about turning to God and turning from sin
Repentance is an attitude that must be maintained.

Humility is born out of repentance. We are not to have a sin complex or to be worm. But be open and humble before God and others. Ready to acknowledge our faults and sins, ready to accept the responsibility of out attitudes, and actions.
Whereas the Senate of the United States, devoutly recognizing the supreme authority and just government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations, has by a resolution requested the President to designate and set apart a day for national prayer and humiliation; and

Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord;
Notice what he calls the day… Day of Humiliation.
Humiliate means, to reduce (someone) to a lower position in one's own eyes or others' eyes : to make (someone) ashamed or embarrassed.
We have lost this… when is the last time our sin did this to us.. when the last time it brought us to brokenness. when it reduced us…

i know there is not condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. but thats a person who has turn to God in repentance, who has confessed his fault
Then the idea of humiliation was connected to humbleness.
Lincoln said, confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon

One of the hardest things for a man to do is admit he is wrong.
Repentance is accepting full responsibility for what one has done
or for what one is and admitting his failures.
Repentance brings one to the end of himself
Repentance prepares the heart to receive God’s grace and salvation. Without proper preparation, the Word will not find place to spring up like a seed, the ground must be prepared for the seed.
Repentance as used in the Old Testament is
To turn, to return, to turn back
Isaiah 30:15 NASB95
For thus the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, has said, “In repentance and rest you will be saved, In quietness and trust is your strength.” But you were not willing,
For thus the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel, has said,
“In repentance and rest you will be saved,
In quietness and trust is your strength.”
But you were not willing,

The sinner must stop going away from God, he must change his mind and turn around; he then faces the light and his sins. But he finds in the light forgiveness, cleaning, and Gods acceptance.

Why do You look with favor
On those who deal treacherously?
Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up
Those more righteous than they?
Habakkuk 1:13 NASB95
Your eyes are too pure to approve evil, And You can not look on wickedness with favor. Why do You look with favor On those who deal treacherously? Why are You silent when the wicked swallow up Those more righteous than they?
Repentance chooses to be conformed to the image of God.
3. Repentance brings one to weep for his sins.
