At The Point Of Death
John 4:46–47 ESV
So he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And at Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill. When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.
John 4
An officer is faced with a situation out of his control
He traveled to see Jesus - (When you want something you will travel for it)
He had a request! Come down and heal my son. He is at the point of death.
I am at church faced with a situation out of my control
I Need Jesus
John 4:48–49 ESV
So Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”
This man didn’t need a sign but needed Jesus!
What drives your faith?
What Jesus can do for you
or Jesus
Faith Has A Criteria
John 4:50 ESV
Jesus said to him, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.
Jesus spoke! Go; your son will live.
This is the true battle ground.
I can lean on my understanding / I can trust in a person / I can trust in his word
Faith is not an option. We treat faith like an option.
Faith
(CSB)
Living by Faith
11 Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For by it our ancestors won God’s approval.
By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was made from things that are not visible.
(CSB)
17 As it is written: I have made you the father of many nations. He is our father in God’s sight, in whom Abraham believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist.
The criteria for Faith:
The power to create a universe with just words ()
Give life to the dead (Romans 4:17)
Call things into existence that do not exit. ()
From Here To There!
We come to church looking for a word concerning our uncontrollable situations!
We all have a from here to there moment.
What do you do, when he only speaks a word concerning your situation?
Two Characteristics of Faith
(Verse 50) “The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way.”
#1 Faith is Normality
Normality: the condition of being normal; the state of being usual, typical, or expected.
#2 Faith is Tranquillity
Calmness

Rest / Sleep
John 4:51–53 ESV
As he was going down, his servants met him and told him that his son was recovering. So he asked them the hour when he began to get better, and they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household.
This man was from Capernaum and Jesus was in Cana at the Time.

Cana and Capernaum

Capernaum is around a 16 mile journey from Cana
It takes a person about 20min to walk one mile
20min x 16miles = 320min (Around 5 1/2 hours)
He gets a word from Jesus at around 1pm but he doesn’t head home until the next day!
