Intro: Spring—watching the corn in the fields on our way to church grow.

I. The Way to New Life

Salvation is God-centered, not man-centered

a. God died and rose again-
1 Corinthians 15:1–3 NASB95
1 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
b. God Saved Us -
b. God Saved Us -
Lazarus dead for 4 days. He couldn’t see, hear, walk, breathe, pump blood through his heart. He had all the physical parts but they were dead. Jesus said “Lazarus come out” and he did. We are dead spiritually. We can’t do anything spiritually for ourselves until Jesus calls to our soul and “believe on me.”
Titus 3:5–7 NASB95
5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
c. God Made the Sacrifice -
c. God Made the Sacrifice -
Hebrews 10:10–14 NASB95
10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; 12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet. 14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.
d. God Chose Us -
d. God Chose Us -
Ephesians 1:3–7 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, 4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love 5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
Ephesians 2:4–5 NASB95
4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

e. God Made the Payment -
1 Peter 1:18–19 NASB95
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
1 Peter 1:18-19
Salvation is not based on human good works, but upon His mercy, His washing, His regenerating & renewing work, His grace to justify us}

Salvation Was Accomplished Through Jesus Christ

Mark 10:45 NASB95
45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
; ; ,
1 Corinthians 6:20 NASB95
20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”—
; ,
Galatians 4:5 NASB95
5 so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
,
b. He Reconciled Us –
b. He Reconciled Us – ; ;
Romans 5:10–11 NASB95
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
; ;
;
2 Corinthians 5:18–20 NASB95
18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
c. He Satisfied God’s Anger – ; ,
c. He Satisfied God’s Anger –
Romans 3:25 NASB95
25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed;
1 John 2:2 NASB95
2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.
R; ,
,
1 John 4:10 NASB95

Salvation Must Be Received By Faith

a.Our Faith is a Result of God’s Grace –
His mercy, His washing, His regenerating & renewing work, His grace to justify us}
Ephesians 2:8–9 NASB95
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
;
b. Faith is Man’s Response to God’s grace –
Romans 3:24 NASB95
24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;
b. Faith Apart from Works Makes Us Right Before God –
Romans 1:16 NASB95
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
c. Faith Apart from Works Makes Us Right Before God – ; ; , ; ;
c. Faith Apart from Works Makes Us Right Before God –
Romans 4:4–5 NASB95
4 Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due. 5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,
; ; , ; ;
Romans 11:16 NASB95
16 If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.
Romans 4:3 NASB95
3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
Rom11:16; , ; ;
rom 4 9
Romans 4:9 NASB95
9 Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, “Faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness.”
,
Galatians 2:16 NASB95
16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.
;
Romans 5:1–2 NASB95
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

II. Signs of New Life

2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB95
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

A. Adoring Jesus Christ

Psalm 42:1 NASB95
1 As the deer pants for the water brooks, So my soul pants for You, O God.
ps

1. Reading your Bible

1 Peter 2:2 NASB95
2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

2. Praying

Ephesians 6:18 NASB95
18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

3. Involved in Church

the church is Christ’s body
people say to me, “I love in Jesus, I just don’t like church” (or organized religion). But the church is Christ’s body, His physical presence here on earth. “I love my husband/wife I just can’t stand to be in the same room with them.”
1 Corinthians 12:27 NASB95
27 Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.
Hebrews 10:25 NASB95
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

B. Spiritual Living

John 14:15 NASB95
15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Positive Living

Galatians 5:22–23 NASB95
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
1 Corinthians 13:4–7 NASB95
4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

C. Hate Evil

Ephesians 4:22–24 NASB95
22 that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
This means accepting God’s rebuke of the evil in your life.
Proverbs 13:1 NASB95
1 A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
Proverbs 15:31 NASB95
31 He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproof Will dwell among the wise.
Ezekiel 36:26–27 NASB95
26 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 “I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.
Galatians 5:16–21 NASB95
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
ezek 36 26-27
Psalm 97:10 NASB95
10 Hate evil, you who love the Lord, Who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
16-21

D. Obey Jesus

John 14:15 NASB95
15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
19-20
Proverbs 19:16 NASB95
16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, But he who is careless of conduct will die.
prov 15
