Intro
As a child driving was something fascinating to me.
It was something that I learned early on.
As a little child we had the opportunity to sit on my dads lap and steer while he drove in parking lots or in front of my grannies house.
Later on probably 5 years before I would have a license I could move cars in the driveway.
I even remember being able to drive Bro.
Blair’s big long car during a youth car wash event!
But when it came time to be an official driver, things changed.
I would soon find out about things like 10 & 2, blind spots, and something people in big cities were familiar with PARALLEL PARKING!
Driving with instruction was different than me driving how I felt.
How I knew to drive was not right according to law!
And going through Austin Driving School I would soon find out that having someone ride along with you as you drove, pointing out mistakes, dangers, and patting you on the back was a good thing!
I would also realize that hours of class and on monitored driving would stick with me throughout my life.
Today I want you to imagine for a moment having Jesus as your driving instructor and the way that you drive is your lifestyle before you came to know Him!
The lesson title for this morning is called Driving With King Jesus.
What we have learned so far...
Jesus has all authority and should be listened to.
It is our responsibility to be disciples in order to make disciples.
Baptize for the remission of sins and align with the trinity.
Today… (Matthew 28:20)
Teaching
Teach- To impart skills or knowledge to.
What does it mean to teach?
What effective Teachers Do
Organization and Clarity
Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Be prepared.
Know how to explain in more than one way.
Analytic (Bachelors are unmarried.
Daisies are flowers.)/Synthetic
(All men are arrogant.
The president is dishonest.)
Approach
Know about what you agree AND disagree with.
Understand past, present, and future.
See things from other’s perspectives.
Dynamism and Enthusiasm
Be excited about belonging to Christ.
Love being a Christian!
Instructor (God)-Group (Us) Interaction
Encourage worship and Bible class attendance.
(Heb.
10:24-26)
Instructor-Individual Student Interaction
Know what your disciple is struggling with.
Make sure that your teaching is quality.
Be approachable.
Tell the truth, even when it hurts.
Observe What Jesus Commands
The word in the Greek means to continue to obey.
Disciples who have already been introduced to Jesus and his authority and have been baptized need to continue to obey what Jesus commands.
The same word is used in the following passages...
Jesus says if you love me CONTINUE TO OBEY.
Paul states that CONTINUING TO OBEY is what matters.
Some of us serve a big coat Jesus.
You know in Texas we don’t have a real winter.
So the couple of days it gets cold towards the end of the year we pull out that big coat!
We love walking outside when the cold comes.
Because the cold is bitter.
It changes you!
It is something that is out of your control.
But the majority of the year it’s warm here in Texas and that big coat sits at the back of the closet or surrounded by moth balls.
We do Jesus the same way.
When life is cold with sickness, broken relationships, financial problems, marriage problems, kid problems, etc.
We are quick to put on big coat Jesus!
BUT! when the weather is sunny.
When we “KNOW” the cold is far gone!
We say see you later big coat Jesus!
It’s time for me to undress!
It’s time for me to take you off so I can do me!
We must continue to obey!
“...Love God… & …Love your neighbor...”
Loving God
Obey Jesus- John 14:15, 2 Jn 6
Loving Your Neighbor
Do Right By Others- Rom.
13:9; Gal.
5:14; James 2:8
Because we live in a society of people that have regressed from sugarcoating right to just ignoring wrong, I want you to chew on this for a minute!
Conclusion
After we have learn to drive with Jesus we must take Him where we go!
We must CONTINUE to obey even when it may seem like he is not in the car with us!
