I Cor 11:1-16

This section of Scripture is often misquoted and the last section misapplied to worship service only.Let's take a close look at it and see what is does say.

vs 1-2

1 Corinthians 11:1-2 Paul starts off by saying follow my example, as I follow the Example of Christ

Keep the ordinances (KJ), Traditions(most), teachings (NIV),

2 Thessalonians 2:15 Brothers stand firm and hold on to the Traditions that we taught to you by word or letter.

These traditions that Paul is speaking about is now the New Testament that we have before us today. And is God's inspired word.

1 Corinthians 11:3

3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, • the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 11:3-16 these next verse are often misapplied because people read only a section of them and apply human understanding to them.

A section of it they try to isolate it only to worship service and not to ones entire life.

I will be using the phrase 24-7. This means 24 hrs a day and 7 days a week.

Christ is the head of man- is this 24-7 or just during worship

husband is head of wife- is this 24-7 or just during worship

God is the head of Christ- is this 24-7 or just during worship |

11:4

Is this referring to during worship hour only or any time one prays and prophesies?

Is this 24-7 or just during worship.

Is God the head of Christ 24-7 or only when some one is worshipping.

Is Christ head of man 24-7 or only when man is worshipping

This deals with 24-7 when ever a man prays or prophesies.

To prophesy: deals with 2 things

1) to forth tell talk about spiritual needs of the day, EX> You have to accept Jesus if you want to be saved

2) to fore tell to talk about the future,

Example for New Testament times> To make a new prediction about the future events. also to repeat a prediction made by some one else.

Example for today > to repeat predicitons made by the inspired writer of God>> To say if one does not accept Jesus, he/she won't make it to heaven. One is predicting the future fate of someone.

If man prays or Prophesies with head covered disgraces his head, which is Chris. This deals with any time in the 24-7 time period. Covered with what? man made material or long hair since long hair on a woman is considered as a natural covering then long hair will also be a natural covering for a man's head.

If woman prays or Prophesies with her head uncovered disgraces her head, This deals with any time in the 24-7 time period. Cover with what?

To answer covered with what?

man has said: women must wear veils, hats, etc

Since these are not practical 24-7 man has added during worship service.

DOES THE BIBLE GIVE US ANY CLUES?

1 Corinthians 11:14-16

1) Disgrace for a man to have long hair because it is a natural covering

2) Woman's long hair is her glory (opposite is short hair is a disgrace see vs 6)

her long hair is given as a covering

Is it wrong to cover her head with a hat or veil? NO but if a woman has short hair it is a necessity

When looking at vs 5-6 one could easily interprete it that it is necessary for that kind of covering.

But it could also be understood as> if woman has her hair cut to short, it is as if her head was shaven.

This opens up another issue. How long is long and how short is short.

I have my opinion. But since the Bible does not cleary state it, it is an area where the principle of the eating of meat rule should be applied. freedom and liberty in opinion as long as it does not cause another to stumble

The only thing man has to do is keep his hair cut shorter then the Womens style. if he doesn't it disgraces Christ

Women have 2 things to consider:

1) they have to keep their hair longer then the mans style

2) they have to decide how short they can have their hair and still be considered long by God

Why must a woman keep her head covered?

Because of the custom of the day, or the Customs of Corinth, or a command from from God?

The argument starts at creation sign it is a command frm God

1 Corinthians 11:10 A woman must have the sign of authority on her head because of the Angels! another sign it is a command from God.

If one disagrees with this passage, remember 1 Corinthians 11:16 this is the practice of all the children of GOD. Another sign it is a command from God.

Traditions taught by an inspired writer, makes it a command. see 2 Thessalonians 2:15
