I Am A Son of God – a story of adoption.
I Am A Son of God – a story of adoption.
– if heirs how then shall I live my life? The God of heaven has adopted me as HIS own, and as His child should I not bear some resemblance to HIM? – How Then Shall I Live but to glorify HIM!
1. Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
a. Heir is defined as one who has a right to possess that which is given over through death.
2. But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
a. Even Jesus: “And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: 52 “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
3. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
a. We’ve all gone to school; we’ve learned the laws of this land; the rules in the work place.
4. But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
“fulness of the time” God’s timing is always perfect. His word says,
a. “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet…
b. Jesus said, “The time is fulfilled,
“made of a woman” “God usually creates life through men and women, but God created Adam out of clay, Eve out of Adam, and a sinless man out of a virgin woman.”
c. “And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee,
“made under the law”
a. Jesus was the first born, a male.
5. To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
a. Each of us were born under the LAW –and move from being under the LAW to being under GRACE.
6. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
a. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” Have you believed on His name?
7. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
a. No longer servants but sons and even friends.
b. “Henceforth I call you not servants; …but I have called you friends;”
And if a son, then an heir of God through Christ, how then shall I live my life? The God of heaven has adopted me as HIS own, and as His child should I not bear some resemblance to HIM? – How Then Shall I Live but to glorify HIM!
· Do you dress like a child of God?
· Do you speak like a child of God?
· Do you live and walk like a child of God?
Illust: William Dixon lived in Brackenthwaite, England. He was a widower who had also lost his only son…
So, as a child of God, what is expected of you?
So, as a child of God, what is expected of you?
“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
· You’ve been declared a child of God [given a new name even]. What are you going to do with it?
· Being a child of God comes with power and authority [victory is ours] – what are you going to do with it.
· Being a child of God comes with a testimony – what are you going to do with it?
He has given you a new song in your mouth – what are you going to do with it? “Daily as I live, often as I breath, let my whole life be expressions of your grace” It is by HIS grace that we are saved and can become sons and daughters of God.
