Praying for the Lost – Biblical Basis

“Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.” (Not really the best use of this verse – God is speaking sarcastically to idols).

“For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…”

Let us make our cause known – “For this cause I bow my knee…”

Reasons to pray for the lost:

1. LOVE - We love them

a. Love for his brothers compelled the rich man to pray for them from hell ().

b. Do we love enough to pray?

2. FAITH - Faith in God is another reason.

a. “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

i. All things includes salvation.

b. “When Jesus saw their faith…”

i. Let’s bring them to Jesus.

3. POWER - Prayer is powerful

a. “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

b. Fervent is defined as passionate, effectual as working = passionately praying for someone.

c. Can we become passionate about praying for the lost of this community?

4. EXPECTATIONS - God expects us to.

a. “And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor:”

i. I want to think God was stunned and disappointed but I don’t HE is ever truly either of those.
