The LORD Is My Portion

:
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
· To be consumed in this context would mean to be brought to an end by God. To die.
· “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” .
o This condemnation means one is consumed, though not destroyed, by the lake of fire.
· His compassions are His love, mercies, or favor. But do not confuse HIS compassion with His righteousness for by HIS righteousness HE will one day judge the world and all the sin that has not been brought under the blood of Christ.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
· How great must the faithfulness of a God who died for you be, for to be anything other than without end would nullify the sacrifice on the cross.
· Each morning and evening we should confess our sins before God, then claim HIS faithfulness and His forgiveness.
o Though HIS compassions fail not that does not mean HE will not chasten you; “for whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth.”
24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
· A portion is that which has been given to me and now belongs to me; the LORD.
· “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.”
25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
· When we speak of our heart (not the organ) we speak of our soul. Our heart is our soul; it is our very being and it is with that very being that we desire our GOD. And when we patiently do so, HE [God] is “good” to us.
· In living or in dying, we must seek HIM and wait for HIM.
26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
· What is this “hope” Jeremiah is speaking of?
o 1st it is the very substance of our faith; “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” .
o 2nd our hope is eternal life through the shed blood of Jesus Christ, “For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.” .
o 3rd “And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” .
Questions:
· So, I want to ask, do you have this Hope?
· Is the Lord your portion?
· Have you found deliverance through HIS shed blood?
If not but you would like to, would you come?
The psalmist wrote “Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.” . Salvation is a beautiful word meaning deliverance but not all deliverance is from sin. What is your need today? Would you bring it before the Lord?
“O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.”
