The Nature of Regeneration

– being made whole.
o To generate means to beget, to produce
o Generated mean begotten, formed
o Regenerate means to produce anew/ born again
o Regeneration is the act of producing anew
· Chambers’ words are the introduction
· The Key verse For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
o Death of the flesh
o Quickening of the spirit
o The old man dies, the new man lives

· The depravity of the man – get them lost, first.

o For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
o For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
We must be changed before we go before God. Sure, but how do I change? This is who I am. YOU don’t, HE does it for you.
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

· The how of salvation – through the quickening

o For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.
o It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
o But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
READ
· The benefits of know Christ; of serving Him?

All things become NEW: being born again. II Corinthians 15:17

· And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
· Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.
· Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
o He has made a new and living way. The Old way was the Law, the new way is Grace.
· And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.
o From Jerusalem to “city of righteousness”; from Jew to Christian for us; no longer a gentile or heathen.
· For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Here we go, what’s in it for you: A NEW HEART & A NEW SPIRIT!

· And I will give them one heart, [one heart with HIS] and I will put a new spirit within you [the very Holy Spirit of God]; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:
o A stony heart cannot love or receive love.
· Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
o Why will you die when God has died for you?
· A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
o This is such good news HE repeats Himself - HE will give you the capacity to love!!
· A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
What do we do with that?

What do we do with that?

· Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
· Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
o You will become new – You will be born again!
· By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
o The veil that was torn – the flesh that was torn – the way to the throne of GOD opened to us
Listen!!
· He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
o Not only a new heart, a new spirit, a new song in your mouth, BUT a new name as well!
o Is this your invitation to the marriage supper?
· PRAY! “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”
o That new heart is a clean heart!
o That new spirit is a right spirit!
Are you hearing what I am saying tonight??!
· “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
o Contrite means = a heart under conviction of your own sin and wickedness; a spirit of agony
Choose you this day who you will serve:
· And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
o Did you catch that? There is a renewing of your MIND – the mind in you the devil has blinded.
· For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
· And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
· And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
o Put on the New man today – Accept the grace and salvation of the Jesus Christ and make Him Lord of your life.
· Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
· Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
“Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.” Will you receive it?

The Nature of Regeneration
By Oswald Chambers
If Jesus Christ is going to regenerate me, what is the problem He faces?
· It is simply this— I have a heredity in which I had no say or decision; I am not holy, nor am I likely to be; and if all Jesus Christ can do is tell me that I must be holy, His teaching only causes me to despair.
· But if Jesus Christ is truly a regenerator, someone who can put His own heredity of holiness into me, then I can begin to see what He means when He says that I have to be holy.
· Redemption means that Jesus Christ can put into anyone the hereditary nature that was in Himself, and all the standards He gives us are based on that nature—
· His teaching is meant to be applied to the life which He puts within us. (the new life)
· The proper action on my part is simply to agree with God’s verdict on sin as judged on the Cross of Christ. (the wages of sin is death)
· The New Testament teaching about regeneration is that when a person is hit by his own sense of need, God will put the Holy Spirit into his spirit, and his personal spirit will be energized by the Spirit of the Son of God— “…until Christ be formed in you” ().
· The moral miracle of redemption is that God can put a new nature into me through which I can live a totally new life.
o Giving me a new heart and a right spirit.
· When I finally reach the edge of my need and know my own limitations, then Jesus says, “Blessed are you…” (). But I must get to that point.
· God cannot put into me, (the responsible moral person that I am), the nature that was in Jesus Christ unless I am aware of my need for it.
Just as the nature of sin entered into the human race through one man, the Holy Spirit entered into the human race through another Man (see ). And redemption means that I can be delivered from the heredity of sin, and that through Jesus Christ I can receive a pure and spotless heredity, namely, the Holy Spirit.
