ME:
I am a young guy but, i have been through already what most experience in a lifetime. Both of my grandparents and parents are dead. Faced multiple near death experiences myself. Statistics tell me that I should be in prison or dead because thats what happens to most people from broken homes.
Statistics say i shouldn’t of graduated high school. I was bullied every day for how i talked with a stutter and the clothes I whore because my family was poor. My principal had to look at my diploma twice to make sure he had the right name when i walked across the stage. My GPA was 1.8
Statistics say I shouldn’t of graduated college because most people who dont graduate in five end up dropping out. I went for eight. Working full time and supporting my family. My GPA was 3.8
I would never allow myself to be bullied again
I would not be a people pleaser
I would never give up on myself
Lately though I have been laxed on those But, congratulations you have awakened the sleeping giant!
WE:
We all have had obstacles and trials to overcome in our lives. It’s not a matter of “if” they come but, “When” they come and how we respond to them. The book of James gives us some very practical advice on how to handle difficulties when they come our way.
GOD:
(NLT)
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. 5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. 9 Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. 10 And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field. 11 The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements. 12 God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. 15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. 16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. 18 He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.
Now Perseverance can be defined as
Synopsis
“Enduring in a course of action or belief. In its negative sense, it can mean being stubborn; in its positive sense, it means continuing commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Enduring in a course of action or belief. In its negative sense, it can mean being stubborn; in its positive sense, it means continuing commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
There is a Human perseverance in sin
(NLT) — 41 So while these new residents worshiped the Lord, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.
(NLT) — 41 So while these new residents worshiped the Lord, they also worshiped their idols. And to this day their descendants do the same.
(NLT) — 5 Why do you continue to invite punishment? Must you rebel forever? Your head is injured, and your heart is sick.
(NLT) — 32 They know God’s justice requires that those who do these things deserve to die, yet they do them anyway. Worse yet, they encourage others to do them, too.
(NLT) — 19 “Those who hear the warnings of this curse should not congratulate themselves, thinking, ‘I am safe, even though I am following the desires of my own stubborn heart.’ This would lead to utter ruin!
(NLT) — 17 So she cried whenever she was with him and kept it up for the rest of the celebration. At last, on the seventh day he told her the answer because she was tormenting him with her nagging. Then she explained the riddle to the young men.
(NLT) — 11 But he did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit.
(NLT) — 10 Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means.
God’s perseverance in calling Israel to obedience
(NLT) — 30 In your love, you were patient with them for many years. You sent your Spirit, who warned them through the prophets. But still they wouldn’t listen! So once again you allowed the peoples of the land to conquer them. 31 But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!

(NLT) — 14 So the Lord changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people.
(NLT) — 6 Solomon replied, “You showed great and faithful love to your servant my father, David, because he was honest and true and faithful to you. And you have continued to show this great and faithful love to him today by giving him a son to sit on his throne.
(NLT) — 13 But if you stop your sinning and begin to obey the Lord your God, he will change his mind about this disaster that he has announced against you.
(NLT) — 13 But if you stop your sinning and begin to obey the Lord your God, he will change his mind about this disaster that he has announced against you.
(NLT) — 10 When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.
Jesus Christ’s perseverance with those who would not believe
(NLT) — 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
(NLT) — 17 Jesus said, “You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.”
(NLT) — 5 May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
Christians’ perseverance in faith
(NLT) — 6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
(NLT) — 22 And all nations will hate you because you are my followers. But everyone who endures to the end will be saved.
(NLT) — 22 Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is severe toward those who disobeyed, but kind to you if you continue to trust in his kindness. But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off.
(NLT) — 8 He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.
(NLT) — 12 Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear.
(NLT) — 23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.
(NLT) — 1 So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.
(NLT) — 36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. 37 “For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. 38 And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away.”
(NLT) — 18 Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.
Perseverance in prayer
(NLT) — 1 One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. 3 A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ 4 The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, 5 but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’ ” 6 Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. 7 Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”
(NLT) — 5 Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: “Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, 6 ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ 7 And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ 8 But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence. 9 “And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? 12 Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! 13 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
(NLT) — 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
(NLT) — 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.
(NLT) — 17 Never stop praying.
Perseverance arises from suffering
(NLT) — 3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.

(NLT) — 12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.
(NLT) — 6 Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer.
(NLT) — 4 We proudly tell God’s other churches about your endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.
(NLT) — 19 So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.
(NLT) — 2 “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. 3 You have patiently suffered for me without quitting.
Perseverance builds and demonstrates Christian character
Perseverance builds and demonstrates Christian character
(NLT) — 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
(NLT) — 5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. 8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
(NLT) — 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
(NLT) — 21 It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, 22 and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.
(NLT) — 12 When I was with you, I certainly gave you proof that I am an apostle. For I patiently did many signs and wonders and miracles among you.
(NLT) — 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
(NLT) — 5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Encouragements for Christians to persevere
(NLT) — 23 When he arrived and saw this evidence of God’s blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord.
(NLT) — 43 Many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, and the two men urged them to continue to rely on the grace of God.
(NLT) — 58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
(NLT) — 13 Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.
YOU:
(NLT) — 13 Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus.
There is a perseverance in sin
There is God’s call to a perseverance to Obedience in Him
Jesus Christ had a perseverance even though people doubted Him
(NLT) — 14 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe.
Christians are called to a perseverance in faith
(NLT) — 11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.
We are called to a perseverance in prayer
Perseverance arises from suffering
Perseverance builds Christian Character
WE:
How would our lives look differently, if we persevered through our troubles
When the Wright brothers tried to fly their first plane, people told them it would never work because humans can't fly.
When Moses led the Israelites across the desert, the people complained: "We're going to die! We want to go back to Egypt!"
When John F. Kennedy said the United States would send a man to the moon, many people said it could never be done.
When Michael Jordan tried out for his high school basketball team, he was cut because he was too short.
Jordan later said. He went home, locked himself in his room and cried.
Then he picked himself up and turned the cut into motivation. “Whenever I was working out and got tired and figured I ought to stop, I’d close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it,” Jordan would explain. “That usually got me going again.”
