Too often, we make huge plans and major resolutions, and we get burned out when we can't keep them. Teach your congregation to make small, manageable, incremental changes that really add up. When we guard our words, make our thoughts obedient to Christ, and cultivate new actions, we can see long term life change.

Introduction

ICE BREAKER - Quotes
VIDEO: THAI GOOD STORY
The persons who saw what the man kept doing everyday, thinks it’s pointless, it’s a waste of time; feed a stray dog, helping an old lady with her cart of things to sell, giving to the poor who is in need, even thinking of saving water by adjusting a flower pot. Little things that others see as a waste of time, at the end becomes a great amount of meaning to others.
There are many of us that are willing to do great things for the Lord, but few of us are willing to do little things. Dwight L. Moody

This retreat - members, leaders, volunteers. Challenge everybody…it’s a step back and a rest time in the presence of the Lord to hear what He has to say, a revival, a re-fuelling from the Holy Spirit.

I believe it’s a break for everybody, from the regular Sunday routine......
Think about like what companies do for their workers
desires to bring in to light and will help us better understand what most Christians are experiencing - feeling burned out in the ministry and wants to take a break or to totally stop and leave the ministry.
this phenomenon is not just for the Pastors but today it is as well as for the members.

And the right way to address this is how to manage your time in doing things incrementally so it will not only give you satisfaction and rest but will eventually will give desirable results.

Zechariah 4:6–10 NLT
Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’ ” Then another message came to me from the Lord: “Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the Lord that search all around the world.)

In Scotland many years ago, a faithful minister was waited upon one day by one of his deacons, who seemed to be under a great burden. "I came early to meet you," he said. "I have something on my conscience to tell you. There must be something wrong with your preaching and work; there has been only one person added to the church in a whole year, and he is only a boy." The old minister went into the pulpit that day with a grieved and heavy heart. He lingered in the church to pray, after the rest had gone. He wished to be alone. He had labored hard for years, only to be told at last that his labor was no longer blessed. At last he became conscious that he was not alone, as he supposed. It was "only a boy." "Well, Robert," said the minister, "what is it?" "Do you think if I were willing to work hard for an education I could ever become a preacher?--A preacher?—Perhaps a missionary?" There was a long pause. Tears filled the eyes of the old minister. At length he said, "This heals the ache in my heart, Robert. I see the divine hand now. Yes, I think you will become a preacher." That boy was Robert Moffat. He was "only a boy," but the measure of the old minister's reward will be found in the gathered fruitage of the labors of Robert Moffat, the great African missionary.

Body

When the Israelites returned to Jerusalem from exile in Babylon and were discouraged at the smallness of the foundations for the new temple and the greatness of the task before them. The Lord sent his prophet Zechariah to encourage Zerubbabel and the people with the promises of His Word.
“Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.”
We all have gone through many stages in our lives and most of those stages is were we tend to despise small things.

Pastor Eric Hausler pointed out why we have the tendency to despise small things

Because small beginnings don’t appear successful. We tend to like the big scene, the big program, the big building, the finished product, just as the people in Zechariah’s day. They scoffed at the small beginnings of the rebuilding of the temple.
Because small beginnings are hard. They require work and we are prone to spiritual laziness. In a small church plant, you can’t just blend in with the big crowd like at a big church and be an anonymous by-stander. Everyone’s participation is needed ().
Because we tend to think the small things are unimportant. But every great work of the Lord starts out small!  Small beginnings take faith in the promises of God, and we’d much rather rather live by sight ().
We tend to despise the day of small beginnings because we’re often surrounded by negative, grumpy, adversarial people who prefer to find faults and delight in criticism rather than looking for evidences of God’s grace…and they discourage us!  It was by grace that the children of Israel were brought back from exile to rebuild the temple, so Zechariah commands Zerubbabel to shout, “Grace!” to the mountains of rubble.

Let’s not despise...

Small beginnings: It’s the manifestation of God’s majestic plan of your future laid out in the present...

God’s plan for the future laid out in the present...
Come on . .
Minister to one another right now, take a partner....pray for one another
Declare to that that his future is happening right here, right now according to God’s plans, little things, little beginnings that shows the hand of God...

David - shepherd

vs. 3 - God will show who among Jesse’s will be the next king.
Flock Welfare
A shepherd’s primary responsibility is the safety and welfare of the flock. Some flocks may include as many as 1,000 sheep.
The shepherd will
graze the animals,
herding them to areas of good forage,
and keeping a watchful eye out for poisonous plants.
Shepherds will have to be almost beside their sheeps to keep watch on them.
Protecting From Predators
Protecting Health - sheep are susceptible to diseases, bothered by insects, some of which carry, Shepherds are often responsible for minor injuries or basic medical treatment, disease.
Shearing the Flock Unlike other animals that shed their hair in the spring, many breeds of sheep must be shorn – have their fleece cut off with shears or clippers

2. Small boy against a giant - for God’s name to be known
David - shepherd
Jesse sends David to Saul’s Camp
So this time, when David’s brother were among King Saul’s army, he was tending their sheep while going back and forth to his brothers to bring food and to bring back a report to his father on how they are doing.
Read:
1 Samuel 17:23–33 NLT
23 As he was talking with them, Goliath, the Philistine champion from Gath, came out from the Philistine ranks. Then David heard him shout his usual taunt to the army of Israel. 24 As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright. 25 “Have you seen the giant?” the men asked. “He comes out each day to defy Israel. The king has offered a huge reward to anyone who kills him. He will give that man one of his daughters for a wife, and the man’s entire family will be exempted from paying taxes!” 26 David asked the soldiers standing nearby, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?” 27 And these men gave David the same reply. They said, “Yes, that is the reward for killing him.” 28 But when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!” 29 “What have I done now?” David replied. “I was only asking a question!” 30 He walked over to some others and asked them the same thing and received the same answer. 31 Then David’s question was reported to King Saul, and the king sent for him. 32 “Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!” 33 “Don’t be ridiculous!” Saul replied. “There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.”
1 Samuel 17:
1 Samuel 17:34–37 NLT
34 But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, 35 I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. 36 I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! 37 The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said. “And may the Lord be with you!”
1 Samuel 17:
3. From being a shepherd boy to a mighty King to rule God’s people
So, from being a shepherd boy, anointed by Samuel in secret, defeated Goliath, went through a lot because Saul was so jealous, experienced to be a commander in the army,
David had been anointed king at the tender age of 17, but only sat on the throne at the age of 30. That is a long gap.
As a teenager, he had been given a promise. A bonafide prophet had come along, snubbed each and every one of his brothers, and been instructed by God, no less, to declare that he would be king.
Sacred oil was poured over him to testify to the fact. Little did little David know, it would be many long years before that day would come, and the time in between was going to be very, very tough.
It was during those years that David learned how to handle a crisis,
how to
love his enemies,
honor authority,
do justly,
love mercy,
and walk humbly with his God.
2 Samuel 5:17 NLT
17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he went into the stronghold.
It took a while, and when he became king, guess what? It’s the BIGGER THINGS now, the small things was just the beginning.
It seemed terrible, endless, disastrous, tragic and scary for those thirteen years of bootcamp, but those hard times were exactly what made David so great during his forty year reign.
It took a while, and when he became king, guess what? His “small things” became an instrument to understand the BIG difference and prepared him for the BIGGER THINGS to come.

GROUP DYNAMICS

I want you..
get together again with your ice breaker group..
if you are not with a church member in a group, it doesn’t matter, this is a good thing..
because we get to pray for one another’s present situation. Remember, this retreat will help us to reflect on our present situation as a church member, a volunteer, a leader.

HUDDLE QUESTIONS

You are now a member or an attendee of your present church, you have have been faithful in doing your part, the “small things” that you are contributing to further His Kingdom, do you feel that it seems you are going nowhere with and why? Share your thoughts in your group.
Do you feel that you are despising the small things that you see in your church? Is it because you see that there are contributing factors such as negative people/person? What will your decision be so that you can be part of the small things and be prepared to make a big difference.
NOTE: End by ministering and praying for one another

BALL CHALLENGE
This exercise creates a simple, timed challenge for the team to help focus on shared goals, and also encourages people to include other people.
Arrange the group in a circle and ask each person to throw the ball across the circle, first announcing his or her own name, and then announcing the name of the person to whom they are throwing the ball (the first few times, each person throws the ball to someone whose name they already know.) When every person in the group has thrown the ball at least once, it’s time to set the challenge – to pass the ball around
all group members as quickly as possible. Time the process and then ask the group to beat that timing. As the challenge progresses, the team will improve their process by standing closer together and learning to work as a team.

VIDEO : IT STARTS WITH ME
So we all know that God will not twist our arm, he will not control us, but we also know if we are really a child of God, our normal tendency is to follow Christ and do His bidding.
We are called to be a part of His kingdom for others to know more about him. We are not just to sit down on the sidelines and watch, we are called to take action.
Matthew 25:14-30
Matthew 25:14–30 NLT
14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip. 16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money. 19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ 21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ 22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’ 23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’ 24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’ 26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’ 28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. 30 Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
While I was writing the thoughts God was giving...
Actually there’s two things or points about big things first if you are coming from the small things and not or if you are in the big things now but I want to address the big things first you are in the big things I want to encourage you to understand and let’s go deeper and turn into study about how to manage big things.
He is always showing me that the BIG thing concerns the totality of our whole christian being.
The way we speak
The way we conduct our lives
Our faith
For example: If I’m not done criticizing my fellow men, (this is the “small things” in our life) then I need to step up and live a life that is worthy of Christ’s name.
It all boils down on how we live THIS LIFE, NOW!!!

GOD HAS GIVEN US EVERY OPPORTUNITY SO THAT WE CAN LIVE A LIFE THAT MAGNIFIES HIS NAME, BUT THE QUESTION IS, HOW DO WE MANAGE THAT OPPORTUNITY.

Let’s say we failed Him, because He desires that we have a consecrated life...
Remember:
Romans 12:1–2 NLT
1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Most often than not, we miss the mark, we fail Him. How do we manage that failure??
We all believe that God blesses us tremendously, right?
If we fail, his word says:
1 John 1:9 NLT
9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
He’s faithful and just to forgive our sins . . .. THAT’S BLESSING RIGHT!!!
So the point I want to show everybody here is that, GOD ALWAYS DOES HIS PART!!!
SO WHAT ABOUT OUR PART!!
May I suggest that let’s check out this verses in Matthew.

Parable of the Talents

Matthew 25:20–30 NLT
20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ 21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Matthew 25:24–30 NLT
24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Matthew 25
1st servant - 5 bags of silver
2nd servant - 2 bags
3rd servant - 1 bag
Both the 1st and 2nd servant invested what was given to them and doubled what was given to them, while the 3rd servant didn’t do a thing about what he have and gained nothing in the end.
This talks about being a GOOD STEWARD of what GoD has given us.
Two words kept repeating when the master acknowledge the 1st and the 2nd servant - GOOD AND FAITHFUL!!!
Do we agree that God knows all of us individually?
He knows who we are, right? 139 - “from our mother’s womb...’?
So He knows our ability - He -gives it to us -
He knows our capabilities?
And we know, each one of us here, knows WHAT God has given us, and WHY He gave it to us? RIGHT?
1 Peter 4:10–11 NLT
10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
Aren’t we so privileged!!! (ROUSE UP THE CONGREGATION) God has given us everything and it’s up to us how we take care of that.
God has given us everything and it’s up to us how we take care of that.
Like I said this morning, the Christian walk is really an individual thing, the evidence of our spiritual growth really is a personal matter, it’s not dependent on anybody else. It’s between you and God.
1 Corinthians 9:24–27 NLT
24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
WE are part of this massive, global alliance of believers doing just but one thing, GATHERING THE HARVEST!!!
So I run with purpose
I’m not shadowboxing...
I discipline my body...
Christian life is a personal thing.....we don’t wait for somebody else...
we heard the message …we apply it

JETHRO’S ADVICE TO MOSES

You are in this retreat...
This retreat is about you as an individual and as a member of the church. God places those “small things” in your life and when you add it all up, those small things; the way we speak, our walk with Christ, how we treat our fellow men, how we
When we guard our words, make our thoughts obedient to Christ, and cultivate new actions, we can see long term life change.

JETHRO’S ADVICE TO MOSES

JETHRO’S ADVICE TO MOSES
JETHRO’S ADVICE TO MOSES
Exodus 18:13–20 NLT
13 The next day, Moses took his seat to hear the people’s disputes against each other. They waited before him from morning till evening. 14 When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he asked, “What are you really accomplishing here? Why are you trying to do all this alone while everyone stands around you from morning till evening?” 15 Moses replied, “Because the people come to me to get a ruling from God. 16 When a dispute arises, they come to me, and I am the one who settles the case between the quarreling parties. I inform the people of God’s decrees and give them his instructions.” 17 “This is not good!” Moses’ father-in-law exclaimed. 18 “You’re going to wear yourself out—and the people, too. This job is too heavy a burden for you to handle all by yourself. 19 Now listen to me, and let me give you a word of advice, and may God be with you. You should continue to be the people’s representative before God, bringing their disputes to him. 20 Teach them God’s decrees, and give them his instructions. Show them how to conduct their lives.
Exodus 18:21 NLT
21 But select from all the people some capable, honest men who fear God and hate bribes. Appoint them as leaders over groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.
Exodus 18:21
This applies to everybody here!!! Regardless if we are leading or just being part of a team. THIS MOMENT IS YOUR BIG THING!!!
LEADERS BE PREPARED THE HARVEST IS PLENTY

Jethro giving advice to Moses in handling millions of people.
it’s your Christian life…it all start with you...
Several things understand:

Your small things will mold you for you to be prepared to witness the Big difference, as that happens, several things we should understand, and I want us to reflect on the life of Jesus, our perfect example:
Several things understand:
Several things understand:

Humility - let’s stay humble.

Jesus didn’t make a list of His triumphs, He stayed quiet, only in the background as souls get saved, sick got healed and dead got raised, He always says, He is just doing the will of the Father.
Things will unfold quickly after tonight because you will be on fire, souls will be harvested, discipled and sent out, but you are only a vehicle, God made that to happen, the Holy Spirit equipped you and you will never be the same again.

Hunger - never go un-replenished

A car needs gas, the engine needs oil, we are not superman
our source of strength is the Lord,
2 Samuel 22:4 NLT
4 I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.
Isaiah 41:10 NLT
10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
Isa
Let us continue to thirst for God
Psalm 42:1–2 NLT
1 As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. 2 I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him?
Psalm 42:
John 7:37–39 NLT
37 On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ ” 39 (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)
John 7:37
Jesus is the Living Water
And Jesus is the well that will never run dry.
There should always be a constant hunger, a deep seated wanting of His presence in our lives

I believe that the Big Difference that should be evident in our lives is not just a one time experience, it should be seen and witnessed in our lives, and that will happen if we constantly soak ourselves in His presence.

Matthew 10:16 NLT
16 “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.

Stop despising the small things and start focusing on the race in front of you and witness the BIG difference that will come. Don’t blame others for your failure to walk according to what Christ wants for you, it’s time to be disciplined and to start a fresh, a revived heart, were you aim to win the prize no matter what the cost.

Be wise as serpent and innocent as a dove.
Luke 10:2 NLT
2 These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.
Our wisdom comes from the Lord
after this night your BIG THINGS will start to unfold..
don’t be scared, it’s a privilege to serve the King of Kings
the verse said “the Lord is in charge of the harvest.
There are many of us that are willing to do great things for the Lord, but few of us are willing to do little things. Dwight L. Moody
