Sermon Tone Analysis

Introduction

All too often we come to the scriptures and think we know what the section we are reading is about or in a hurry to get to the section we want to have comfort or help us and we miss what the Holy Spirit would have us to learn.

This is the first of two prayers for the Ephesians that are in this book.

We really want to get to the second prayer in chapter 3, where we are told that God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask/think.

As a youngster we had to memorize both of these prayers and the congregation prayed them on different Sundays corporately in the morning worship service.

I did this for approximately 10 years while growing up.

As I was reading this section in my Bible reading, the Lord showed me something that I had missed and that I almost skimmed over because my familarality with the text.

The first thing I noticed, which I had never seen before was that there was two lists and then secondly, the pronouns and then the importance of Paul’s admonition/petition at the beginning of the prayer.

So let’s dig in to this prayer of Paul’s.
