Introduction

Time tells us what we are to do. Paige and I house was built in 1927 and it’s a spanish style home with no central air conditioning and no insulation. So our house is either very cold or very hot. So when it’s time for the summer, if your house is anything like mine, you know its time to open up the door so the wind can blow through the house. It’s time to leave all the windows with security bars on them open all day, so when you get back you won;t feel like you walking into a furnace. It’s time to turn on the fans and the floor air conditioner’s. It’t time to put away the heavy comforters and bring out the sheets. And if you’re married, it’s time to sleep with distance because it’s too hot to be touched.…because it’s summer. Time tells us what to do.
I’m not talking about what’s on your watch or on the clock, but do you know what time it is in your life? Do you know what season you are in? Because if you do not know what season you are in, then you will not know what to do in that season.

1 Chronicles 12:32 NRSV
32 Of Issachar, those who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, two hundred chiefs, and all their kindred under their command.
Proverbs 6:6 NRSV
6 Go to the ant, you lazybones; consider its ways, and be wise.
Proverbs 6:6–8 NRSV
6 Go to the ant, you lazybones; consider its ways, and be wise. 7 Without having any chief or officer or ruler, 8 it prepares its food in summer, and gathers its sustenance in harvest.
2 Chronicles 12:32
Proverbs 6:6-8
But when winter comes, it’s time to close the windows and time to shut the door It’s time to put a towel at the bottom of your front door to stop that little breeze from getting through. It’s time to turn off the fans and air conditioner’s and turn on the heaters. It’s time to bring out the heavy duty comforters and the heating blankets. Why? because it’s winter. Time tells us what to do.
But imagine if you you showed up to my house in the summer and I had the heater on. Or imagine if you showed up to my house on a cold winter night and I had the air conditioner blowing. You would look at me like I’m crazy. Not because there is something wrong with the air conditioner or the heater. The appliances are good to have in and of themselves. But you would look at me like I’m crazy because the appliance I’m using is not designed for this season. Heaters belong in the winter and air conditioners belong in the summer. Each appliance has it’s own season.
And my question to you today is do you know what time it is?
Do you know what time it is?
I’m not talking about what’s on your watch or on the clock, but do you know what time it is in your life? Do you know what season you are in? Because if you do not know what season you are in, then you cannot respect the season you’re in and will not know what to do in that season.

Psalm 90:12 NRSV
12 So teach us to count our days that we may gain a wise heart.
2 Peter 3:8 NRSV
8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.
Psalm 90:12
I missed my final because I had not paid attention to time. (Overslept)
Last week, many of you woke up at a certain time, hit the snooze button, and then when the alarm went off again, you finally got up, because it was time to go to work or school. All of you woke up at a certain time so that you can be here at this very moment.
There are consequences when you do not adhere to time.
If you keep showing up to work late, there is a good chance you will be fired.
If you do not pick up your child from school or daycare at a certain time, you will have to pay a fee for every minute your child is still there.
If you don’t wake up on time, you can miss a final.
If you don’t show up on time to an interview, you most likely won’t get the job.

If you don’t know what time it is, you don’t know what to do?

If you don’t know what time it is, you don’t know what to do?

If you don’t know what time it is, then you are probably doing the wrong thing.
wasted time is wasted life (that’s why the Bible says enjoy God in your youth)
We measure our life on earth.
Time is created for purpose. Time tells you what you are to do. Time tells you when to go to work. Time tells you when to play. Time tells you when you to go to church.
Time doesn’t wait on anybody.
Time at staring at someone else’s life because of social media.
Where you sow is where you reap.
Waste our times in jobs and careers God has not called you too. You only have 24 hours a day.
Busy Doing Nothing - a lot of people are doing alot but doing nothing.
There are seasons. When season change, you have to adjust yourself. You don’t wear swim trunks in the winter.
Myles Munroe said life is not measured by duration, but by donation.
It’s not how long you live, but by what you did while you lived.
Who am I? - Identity
Where am I from? ( Jesus, not black) - (Heritage)
Why am I here? - Purpose
What can I do? - Potential
Where am I going? - Hope
,
- Look to the ants - They know what season they are in. They know to go to work now because winter is coming.
Ecclesiastes 3
1)God appoints the time, not us. We are stewards, not managers.
2) If it’s a thing or an event it has a season.
Even Good Things have a season Vs 2 - , There might have been a time when something might have been a good idea, but it was good idea for that season. Good fruit, not just whatever fruit, but good fruit is produced in a certain season. Strawberries are not good if you tried to produce them outside of the season. (Do research). Some jobs are just for a season. Some relationships are just for a season. Some ministries are just for a season. There was a time when it was good to plant , but then now that’s not goo anymore.
I had a good job before I came here full-time, making good money, but a good job with good money means nothing if it’s not where God wants you this season. You will waste time if you are at place that God does not have for you. You can’t do what you want to do and what God wants you to do because there is only 24 hours in the day.
Time will help you be more effectiveness ( a time to be silent and a time to speak)
You can do the right thing at the wrong time. You can be doing something that is good, but because you are doing a good thing in the wrong time, you are not getting the results you are looking for.
A time to say something to your husband or not say something
Are you good at studying in the morning or the evening.
The black preachers in the room with President Trump
Don’t become to attached to a season. Some of us are good at keeping stuff, but we don;t know how to throw away.
You can understand God’s power and character by looking at nature itself.
Time waits on no one. There is Limited time.
Seasons change, but God does not, for he is not subjected to time, but he stands out of time.
Stop wanting the other season and embrace the one you are in.
Singleness vs. marriage
You can waste this season by focusing on past seasons.
