INTRODUCTION

All Scripture is giving by inspiration of God - Doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness.
Inspiration - God Breathe
Profitable - Helpful, serviceable, advantageous - root word to accumulate or benefit.
God’s word has a purpose in our life. We cannot succeed without God’s word
Not just reading God’s word but allowing God’s word to change our life. This is how God’s word is profitable.
Why is this important? Oftentimes Bible writers will write of situations that are absolutely foreign to us.
Perhaps the society is different or the scenario is different.
And in these times it can be difficult to place ourselves in the story. Yet, if we do not place ourselves in the story and allow God’s word to move i our lives then there is no profit n reading God’s word.
As we are in 1 Peter, Peter is dealing with situations that do not necessarily apply to us.
We are not scattered.
We are not facing persecution.
So if we are not careful, we can gloss over this epistle without ever placing ourselves in the story because we find no relationship.

PERSEPCTIVE V.13

1 Peter 3:13 KJV 1900
And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
The sentence is a rhetorical question - The force of the verse is there really anyone who will harm the ones who are doing good?
The truth is Peter has already giving us the answer to this question.
Ways to be harmed - no voice, companionship, relationships, demotions, terminations, emotional, financial, burdens, etc.
The best citizens of any country should be Christians - because we are followers of Jesus Christ - So if they are going to harm us may it be because we are following Jesus!

MINIMIZES

God minimizes the ones who harm those who do good - “who is it that will harm you.”
In other words, this person has to be crazy, and lost his or her mind.
Our nation tries to harm God and His word - abortion - none the less, God minimizes their standing. They are crazy!

MAXIMIZES

God maximizes the “followers”
Key word: “followers” - noun, not a verb - imitator - means zealot - not zealous - it is who we are, not what we are doing -

POSSIBILITIES v.14-17

SUFFER

Suffer - to experience harm or emotional pain. present
present
active
optative - The mood used by the writer to portray an action as possible, or to express a wish or desire.

STANDING

Express a wish or desire.
The mood used by the writer to portray an action as possible, or to express a wish or desire.
not in arrogance or pride - there is a conflict of emotions
Happy - Blessedness is therefore higher than happiness for it consists of standing in a right relation to God, and so realizing the true purpose of man's being
Afraid - anxious or apprehensive

SANCTIFYING

SANCTIFYING

Sanctify - To make as dedicated to God; either in becoming more distinct, devoted, or morally pure - honor as holy!
We hot bumps in the road - these bumps are not the time to quit but to be committed.

SOULWIN

As we are sanctifying the Lord, they will see there is something different about us. They will notice our life is not about our thought processes, philosophies, politics etc.
How are we to answer?
Meekness - gentile - mild - humility
Fear - profound respect
The goal - even though they speak evil against you - your life and words may bring them to shame -

PROOF v.18-22

Jesus is proof that God’s model works

SALVATION v.18
