SPEAK TO NEED
None of us can escape suffering as affliction and adversity are apart of life.
Ecclesiastes 3:4 ESV
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
Yes, there is suffering in our path of life, yet the good news is that we are not alone in our pain. Nor is our pain without purpose. The resistance is real, but serve a loving God who walks with us and talks with us through our suffering.
Hallelujah, with him help is on the way!
PLEASE STAND WITH ME FOR THE READING OF GOD’S HOLY WORD!
2 Corinthians 1:3–7 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. 6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
State Key Verse: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. (2 Cor. 1:3)
I like to preach this morning as the Holy Spirit guides from the thought...

THE HELP I NEED

Prayer of Illumination: Father I come in the name of Jesus needing you more now than I have ever needed your before, thank your for your faithfulness through out history, thank your that your word is true, that your word is spirit and life… send down your word from your mouth so that it does not return to you empty, but accomplish what you please and succeed in the purpose you sent it.
INTRODUCTION
Our text today is often use at funerals to comfort family members and friends whose loved ones who have left us for their eternal reward in Glory with our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. It is used to comfort those who mourn, and to comfort those going through the pain of suffering no matter the variety.
This last week we have seen mourner on the national stage as the queen of soul Aretha Franklin and a veteran and war hero Senator John McCain were laid to rest.
In mourning we are shaken to grieve a new reality without those we love and the way of life we may have enjoyed.

Why:

Our passage this morning offers us assurances the we will have help in time of need. But what does our help look like so we can recognize it in time of need?

I. Our Help is not Limited in Christ

A. Sometimes we can fool ourselves to think that nobody is able to help us in our pain.

2 Corinthians 1:3–4 ESV
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

B. GOD says, wherever you hurt, suffering or in distress I got you now.

John 14:16 ESV
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,

C. Where are you hurting this morning? Can you trust God to meet you where you have need? Where do you need help?

Our passage this morning offers us assurances the we will have help in time of need. But what does our help look like so we can recognize it in time of need?

II. Our Help Overflows us in Christ

A. The increase in our lives has two purposes; to help us and to help others. See, you can’t lead others to somewhere you have never been yourself.

2 Corinthians 1:4–5 ESV
4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

B. We must remember that is God who prepares us for what is next in our lives.

Isaiah 40:1–2 ESV
1 Comfort, comfort my people, says your God. 2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that her warfare is ended, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received from the Lord’s hand double for all her sins.
Our afflictions brings double blessings.

C. Where is your overflow? How has God double blessed you to be a help to others?

Our passage this morning offers us assurances the we will have help in time of need. But what does our help look like so we can recognize it in time of need?

III. Our Help will Power and Sustain us in Christ

A. The resistance and trials of our lives bears spiritual fruit.

2 Corinthians 1:6–7 ESV
6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.

B. Everything that we encounter in life is needful for who we are becoming.

Philippians 3:8–11 ESV
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

C. Who is your hope when you need help? Who is the source and strength when the storms of life are raging in your life? What do you grab on to in times of trouble?

Recapitulation: The good news is we can recognize our help in time of need, because our help is not limited, it overflows us, and sustains us in Christ Jesus.
