“Chronic alcoholism results in alcoholic deterioration of the brain – a type of mental illness that affects many alcoholics who fail to overcome their habit while managing somehow to live beyond middle age.  After years of continuous or periodic drinking, such people experience a slow but growing personality change, always of an adverse nature.  (During these years, the victim will often have attacks of delirium tremens, acute halluninosis and alcoholic polyneuritisy).

“This overall alcoholic deterioration usually involves not only temperament and ability to get along with others, but often is accompanied by a dangerous devaluation of the drinker’s moral and ethical values and a loss of his previously sound judgment.  He tends to become increasingly unreliable, lazy and often careless with the truth.  Sometimes such people make a complete change and stop drinking.  But they can never be restored to the sharp intellectual persons that they once were.  They must adjust their lives to the level to which they’ve fallen ...Alcohol destroys both mind and personality.” – Nashville Doctor
