Then he said to Moses, “Go up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of Israel’s elders, and bow in worship at a distance.
Moses alone is to approach the Lord, but the others are not to approach, and the people are not to go up with him.”
Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, “We will do everything that the Lord has commanded.”
And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. He rose early the next morning and set up an altar and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel at the base of the mountain.
Then he sent out young Israelite men, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as fellowship offerings to the Lord.
Moses took half the blood and set it in basins; the other half of the blood he splattered on the altar.
He then took the covenant scroll and read it aloud to the people. They responded, “We will do and obey all that the Lord has commanded.”
We are called to COMPLETE obedience.

Illus: When it comes to right and wrong, it seems we are living in a day when people say, “what is right for you is right for you, and what is right for me is right for me”.
It is this idea that we determine right and wrong for our selves. We make ourselves the standard minimizing our own sin and maximizing others.
In this we think we are good people.
Hear me friends, We do not get to decide what is right or wrong. Our culture does not determine what is right and wrong.
God determines what is right and wrong. He sets the holy standard.
God’s standard will offend you, it will challenge you, it will call you to repent of sins in your life that you have grown comfortable with.
God is holy. As he is holy, perfect, he calls us to that same standard.
(CSB) 13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be sober-minded and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance. 15 But as the one who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct; 16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.,
A CALL TO HOLY LIVING

THE COVENANT CEREMONY
24 Then he said to Moses, “Go up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of Israel’s elders, and bow in worship at a distance. 2 Moses alone is to approach the Lord, but the others are not to approach, and the people are not to go up with him.”
3 Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, “We will do everything that the Lord has commanded.”
Illus: The question becomes, how do you know God’s standrd.
Does God give you feelings to know what is right and wrong? If you feel that it is right, does that make it right?
This is a poor way to know God’s will and standard.
God has spoken what he wants from us. It is clear as day in his word.
Our problem is that our sinful desire is at war with God. We will often disagree with the word. We will pick out intuition or feelings over the clear teaching of scripture because we think we are a better judge than God.
(CSB) 3 His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
GROWTH IN THE FAITH

We are INCAPABLE of complete obedience.

No matter how sincere our hearts are, we will fail.

Illus: We are living in this era of self esteem. Here is what i mean. We want people to always feel good about themselves. We never want people to feel like they have done something wrong, or feel guilty.
God created the law knowing your would fail. God wants you to realize that you are guilty, feel bad about it, realize that you are not good enough, and then turn to him for strength.
Feeling guilt for your sin is not a bad thing, it is an essential to help you realize how you are insufficient.
(CSB) 27 For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you are rebelling against the Lord now, while I am still alive, how much more will you rebel after I am dead! 28 Assemble all your tribal elders and officers before me so that I may speak these words directly to them and call heaven and earth as witnesses against them. 29 For I know that after my death you will become completely corrupt and turn from the path I have commanded you. Disaster will come to you in the future, because you will do what is evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him with what your hands have made.”

Illus: Can you imagine a police officer looking at a man with multiple DWIs and say, I know you are going to drink and drive again, so just be careful next time you get behind the wheel.
Or about the parent who tells their toddler, I know you are going to stick that lego in your mouth, so just make sure you keep it at a 4 block or smaller.
God does not lower His standards because he is cruel or intolerant. He does so because he has our best in mind.
It is not God’s standards that are broken, but we humans who are broken. What needs to be fixed are not God’s laws, but us.
Illus:
Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the presence of the people.
After Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel,
he said to them, “Take to heart all these words I am giving as a warning to you today, so that you may command your children to follow all the words of this law carefully.
For they are not meaningless words to you but they are your life, and by them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”
God GAVE us complete obedience.
God GAVE us complete obedience.
Moses took the blood, splattered it on the people, and said, “This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you concerning all these words.”
From the very beginning, God wanted men to see that He would provide what was necessary for us to be completely obedient.
From the very beginning, God wanted men to see that He would provide what was necessary for us to be completely obedient.
Illus: The blood sprinkled on the people was symbolic of how God would keep his covenant, through His blood sprinkled over a people who would not and could not live for him.
(CSB) 30 It is from him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became wisdom from God for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, 31 in order that, as it is written: Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.,
How can you live up to God’s standard, while still struggling in sin?
2. How does Jesus change the way you see obedience?
