Philippians 2:19 KJV 1900
19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state.

19 But I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition.
Paul had a Pastors heart, a shepherds heart or servants heart.
a. He wanted to know the condition of the church. so he hope is to sent Timothy.
b. Paul was always concerned about the spiritual progress of others.
Acts 15:36 KJV 1900
36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they do.
c. Paul was not only concerned about people being saved, but also about people growing in their faith in the Lord.
d. Paul wanted Timothy to go there so he could know what was going on with them spiritually.

20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

20 For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare.
Likemined: Timothy was of the same mind concerning spiritual matters.
a. Paul knew that no one else would feel the same interest that Timothy would.
“who will naturally care for your state”
NASB:
Whatever was going on with the church, needs, suffering, persecution, Timothy would regard it with a sincere heart, with serene love and concern.
a. Probably no one was closer to Paul then Timothy. He had a deep love for him, and he also had a deep love for the people of Philippi.

21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

21 For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.
Paul is talking about who opposed Paul’s ways.
a. There were others Paul could have sent, but they were not as self-sacrificing as Timothy.
b. Some would help when they would get something out of it.

22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.
Talking about Timothy: NABS “his proven character”
a. They had seen the proof of his character. They had seen him in action.
b. The evidence was there, they had seen how sincere and faithful he was, and how he devoted himself to the spreading of the gospel.
c. They had seen him work with Paul as a son with a father.

23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

23 Therefore I hope to send him immediately, as soon as I see how things go with me;
Paul didn’t know how things were going to go with himself.
a. He wanted to send Timothy to Philippi soon, but he also wanted to go there himself.
c. But no matter, Paul trusted God.

24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly.

24 and I trust in the Lord that I myself also will be coming shortly.
Paul was most likely in Rome, that is what most Bible teacher believe. That meant that Paul would not make it there.
a. Did this mean that God failed Paul.
b. God’s plan is not always our plan.
