Four Ways to Start a Fire with Your Phone

This advice is for everyone - communication/reacting emotionally.
hasn’t changed.
I love technology
using a smartphone is like driving a car
power to make your life better or can totally ruin your life and the lives of others.
4 ways to start a fire/ruin your life with your phone

1. Say whatever you want

We’re bolder - you would never tell a 300lb body-builder how dumb he was to his face.
Increased abuse/bullying = increased tracking. Nothing on the internet every truly dies.
What you intend to be a joke becomes much more serious.
The things you say are seeds you plant. Either good or bad.
Galatians 6:7 CSB
Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap,

Justine Sacco Story

“Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” - Justine Sacco on Twitter -
James 3:5 CSB
So too, though the tongue is a small part of the body, it boasts great things. Consider how a small fire sets ablaze a large forest.
small burns at someone becomes a forest fire out of our control.

2. Use your phone as your stage

Good and bad.
Change the world - use it for good!
Bad when you just try and get attention.
vent about problems or complain about life.
Gossip
Gossip is a disease. It infects people’s self-worth. God hates gossip, so do I, so should you.

3. Believe that everything people say is true

Lincoln said it best: “You shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet.” fake if you couldn’t tell, George Washington said it.
Not just fake facts/news, but identity.
People who live totally different lives on their phone than in life.
Dangerous people online! 100s of people ya’ll age are disappearing and forced into sex-slavery. Their strategy: convincing students they are someone attractive and planning a hookup time/location.
Proverbs 4:23 CSB
Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
1 Peter 5:8 CSB
Be sober-minded, be alert. Your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.

4. Believe that you can’t build real relationships on your phone.

WRONG! We need to see our online relationships with people as REAL.
Some adults tell us they aren’t real - I disagree. They’re not the same as face-to-face in some ways, but they are real people and real relationships.
Ephesians 4:29 CSB
No foul language should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear.

You can ruin your life if you’re irresponsible with your phone.

There’s more we could talk about. SO much more.
Sexting/Pornography.
You may think you’re getting away with something, but you’re not. Even if you never get caught by “the authorities”---God knows.
Using a smartphone is like driving a car. If you’re parents wouldn’t let you go to that place in a car, you shouldn’t do it on your phone.
