Intro:
Me - I can either control my emotions or they control me.
One of my biggest struggles in life is learning to deal with how I feel.
Sometimes I just wan to vent, rant and allow my emotions to take me to places that are not helpful.
There is a tension in my life with following Jesus and following my feelings.
I have a desperate desire to teaching you what the Bible states about emotions.
I’ve dedicated the next five weekends to lead you on an emotional journey and it is my prayer that your life will never be the same again.
Listen to these verses -
HEART - Do you hear the emotion in these words that Jesus spoke.
God wants me to love him passionately, with affections, emotionally with all my heart.
Feel it!
Here is another verses -
Romans
Paul describes the Kingdom of God… goodness, peace and joy. 2 out of the 3 are emotions.
That fascinates me.
I come to understand that the Bible is a book full of emotion.
I’ve come to understand that God has emotion.
He feels joy, grief, pain, anger and hatred toward evil.
We - need to invest time in learning to control our emotions because we are emotional beings.
Wrong feelings will not move us into a more dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.
Before we jump into what God says about emotions I want to give you two guard rails avoid:
Emotionalism: all that matters is how I feel.
(the only thing)
If it feels right- it must be right!
The goal of life becomes feeling good.
Can become an idol.
Stoicism: feelings arent important at all
Many Christians fall into one of these two camps.
A lot of theology is determined by personality!
Ill - Marriage stuffer and gusher
Ill - Worship/Denominations Oceans of emotion / quizzer in my liver.
A lot of people are seeking an emotions not God.
Blessed are the balanced.
At BCC let’s avoid the guardrails and ride the center line of facts and feelings.
