- Now Jericho was tightly shut because of the sons of Israel; no one went out and no one came in.
Look at verse 20-21
The LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the valiant warriors.
“You shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once.
You shall do so for six days.
“Also seven priests shall carry seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
“It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city will fall down flat, and the people will go up every man straight ahead.”
Look at verse 20-21
So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city.
They utterly destroyed everything in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.
My Question for you this morning,
Is there something in your life occupying what God want to possess?
Do you know that the devil wants to inhabit places that God want to possess?
The children of Israel had a promise.
this primise was tied to a land.
God’s desire was for His children to possess the land that He promised.
To possess the land means facing the enemy and his work.
There can be no compromise in any area.
The land of Promise should be the land of complete victory.
It can be if you are willing to deal with all the works of enemy.
Prior to Moses' death, God is described as showing him the Promised Land , Deuteronomy with Jericho as a point of reference.
Now Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho.
And the LORD showed him all the land.
Verse 4
Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.
Then the LORD said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.
Now Moses first glimpse of this prophet promise.
We find in
“So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
Now notice God words here.
“Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.
Now notice God words here.
1.
I have come Down (point to Jesus coming to the earth)
2. To deliver you from the power.
(Point to salvation, to save you.) the Cross
3. To bring them up (point to what he did when he was resurrected)
Notice
even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Notice that this is not talking about after you die.
But we are to rise up this him now and take our seat in heavenly place.
He tell Moses this is a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey.
This expression, "a land flowing with milk and honey", is a Biblical reference to the agricultural abundance for Land of Israel.
But the problem is that the land is already possessed.
By all the “Ites.”
Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.
Basically, your enemies are possessing what is your.
Your sins, your trespasses, your unforgiveness, your fears, your bitterness, your shame.
These are not friends!
God want to possess your whole life.
Every part of you all that you are.
We’ve talked about you having 3 parts
Man’s 3 parts
body, soul, spirit
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God tell Moses
I have come down, to deliver you, to bring them up

God want to do this work in us entirely.
He wants to possess everything.
All that we are.
Every part of our lives.
But there is a devil that wants to occupy what God wants to possess.
Lets look at
“ When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’
“And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.
“Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.”
Notice Jesus referring to man as a house.
An unclean spirit gets cast out of a man.
Then it decide to go back again
Notice the Bible says the house is swept and put together.
Then the spirit goes and get 7 other spirit more evil then himself overtakes the place and live there.
And the state of the man is worse than the first.
The house is man.
This unclean spirit was cast out of the house.
God came down.
The bible also said that the house was swept and put into order.
God Delivered.
But the problem is when the spirit can back.
The house was still empty.
So the devil occupied the house again and the man was worse.
Stephan tell us in that God is not looking for a house built by human hands.
But he wants to possess people.
The problem with this house or man Jesus is referring to here is.
Yes the devil been cast out and yes the house has been put in order.
But Jesus never possessed and fill that house.
So when the devil saw it empty he filled it again.
says do not give the devil an opportunity.
The KJV says do not give place to the devil.
The KJV says do not give place to the devil.
The word for Place or Opportunity here is the word top'-os meaning, spot or space, that is, location (as a position, home) figuratively it means opportunity; or, license.
Did you know you can give the enemy a place through your actions?
Notice the context here.
