In order to overcome sin we must first understand the real reason why we sin.

The Real Source of Sin

The real reason why men sin is because of the presence of sin in their flesh ().

Until we learn to overcome the sin in our nature we will never know freedom from sin.

The real cause of sin lies not in a man’s actions, but in his heart ().

We will never know freedom from sin until we learn to overcome the sin in our nature. The real cause of sin is not men’s actions, but men’s heart ().

How do we overcome the nature of sin or what the Bible calls the flesh?

How do we overcome sin? Paul essentially asked the same question ()!

JESUS delivers us from sin ().

First, we are delivered from the penalty of sin through His death (, ).

Second, we are delivered from the power of sin through His resurrection ().

FAITH delivers us from sin ().

By the way, we “watch” to avoid what can be avoided. We “pray” to overcome what cannot be avoided! Some things we wouldn’t have to pray for if we just did a better job watching!

It’s important that we always make Christ the object of our faith. What we believe about Him will determine what we believe about ourselves ().

Our faith will deliver us from sin, but not without suffering (, ).

What we’re really believing for is the manifestation of Christ. The manifestation of Christ’s nature (character) neutralizes (takes away) the power of sin (). Sin can’t manifest where Christ is manifesting. But, the life of Christ cannot manifest without death ()!

THE SPIRIT delivers us from sin ().

Sin is not just neutralized by faith. We must learn to walk in and obey the Spirit ().

PRAYER delivers us from sin ().

By the way, we “watch” to avoid what can be avoided. We “pray” to overcome what cannot be avoided! Some things we wouldn’t have to pray for if we just did a better job watching!
