There is Only One King

Eschatology-last things or events at the end of world history
Jesus refers to his second coming at least 21 times, and 23 of the 27 New Testament books mention His second coming
The book of Revelations points back to the book of Daniel most
The word revelation means: to unveil to uncover or disclose what is hidden
The scripture contains three prophetic discourses necessary for us to get a grasp on eschatology, end times prophecy, things to come, of the future of the church and civilization.
In order they appear in the scripture: The Book of Daniel, The Olivet Discourse, , and The Book of the Revelation
The book of Daniel is where we are today. We cannot handle all the prophecy given in the book of Daniel in this window of time, but we will work out one today.
Every child that spends time in Sunday School probably knows the book of Daniel, We learn of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego and the fiery furnace and Daniel in the lions den.
There is so much more in there. Deep, deep prophecy that is a means to teach us depth of character, and an understanding of how big God is, and the control He still possesses over governments and world affairs.
Daniels Prophecy can be summed into 5 events:
Chapter 2 we heard: Nebuchadnezzar’s dream
Chapter 7 is the beasts
Chapter 8 east meets west
Chapter 9 The prophetic clock (seventy weeks prophecy that we will cover during advent this year)
Chapter 10 Daniel’s final vision and the end times
The purpose of Daniel is prophecy and piety
Daniel reveals how God’s people are to live in the midst of earthly rulers
Prophecy and piety, living a godly life, go hand in hand. There is no separation.
The Bible has some consistent messages: the most important being God’s redemption of man. The second being man’s response to God, and the third, man’s response to man.
Living a Godly life, as an example of Christ, is the cornerstone to our existence. In the church of the Nazarene, we call this the sanctified life.
Going to the context of our scripture for today:
In the book of Daniel there is no king in Israel, and Jerusalem is under Gentile control; Babylonian control, Nebuchadnezzar’s reign. 605 B.C.
One of the prophecies in Daniels writing is this: there will be no other King in lineage of Israel until Christ comes to reign again. Today, there is no Davidic king in Israel and therefore Israel is still under Gentile control.
The prophecy continues.
That will not change until the second advent of Christ when He returns to rule as king.
Nebuchadnezzar the king, had a dream. It could not be interpreted. Kill all the magicians, astrologers, sorcerers and Chaldeans if they cannot tell me the dream and its interpretation.
Daniel was to be killed with all other men of wisdom that could not interpret the king’s dream. Daniel said whoa, give me a minute and God will tell. God did tell him and he went to the king to interpret. The dream interpreted.
The interpretation was this:
Each part of the body represented a gentile kingdom, each one weaker than the last until we reach the feet.
Head of Gold-present empire, Babylon and King Nebuchadnezzar
Chest and arms of silver, Medo Persia Empire that followed
Belly and thighs of bronze, Greece
Legs of Iron, Rome
Feet and toes of iron and clay, Rome II-divided into ten territories represented by the ten kings, and ten toes
Some say this event has yet to take place and is a coming Rome, where by the Anitchrist will dwell and rise up at the appropriate time.
What happens to the statue in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream
Isaiah 9:7 NKJV
Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
That stone, made from the mountain without hands, destroys the gentile nations is non other than the return of Christ:
The stone the builders rejected
Psalm 118:22 NKJV
The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.
Psalm 118:22
What are we to know from the prophecy of Daniel concerning Nebuchadnezzar?
The stone that destroyed the statue represents the second coming of Christ when He will destroy Gentile rule.
The stone becoming a mountain and filling the earth is a picture of the Messiah’s worldwide kingdom that will forever replace the kingdom’s of man.
Just as important, is the part you play in this kingdom to come.
Daniel 1:8 NKJV
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel did not defile himself for the cost of some food-
Daniel did not defile himself to save his life
Daniel did not defile himself for the kings of this earth
Prophetically speaking
Stay off the high places where Israel lost her first love
Stay off the high places where temptations of this world illuminate our eyes and our mind
Stay off the high places where self is God and idols abound.
God is watching, working, waiting. When the time is right the trumpet will sound and the dead will rise, and those alive will rise to meet him in the air.
Revelation 3:19-
Revelation 3:19–22 NKJV
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’ ”
