Days of Rejoicing or Days of Judgement ?
Story of the merciful professor.
His love and mercy changed me forever. I never cheated on a test again.
Haven’t we all experienced something like that?
Our greatest memories were
Some of our best times were when someone showed us bold unconditional love
Some our worst encounters were with someone that was mean, hateful, and vengeful.
But then haven’t we all done it too?
We were mean and hateful when we should have shown love and mercy.
Were we hurtful and petty when we should have been gracious and forgiving?
Unfortunately, all to often humanity sees G-d as judgmental and vengeful......and maybe even mean and petty.
The most portentous fact about any man is not what he at a given time may say or do, but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like. A.W. Tozer
We become like the G-d we invision
If we see G-d as angry and vengeful we will be angry and venegul
If we see G-d as mean and petty we will be mean an petty
If we see G-d as keeping a record of wrongs and rights we will keep a record of wrongs and rights.
We see this principle of becoming like the God we serve in the first chapter of Romans
Claiming to be wise, they became fools. They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image in the form of mortal man and birds and four-footed beasts and creeping things.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,

Romans 1:
They perverted the image of G-d and they became perverted
When our ways become perverted the first thing we do is we hide from G-d
If we have a sin problem it is because we have warped view of G-d problem

We put on a mask so that people don’t see who we really are and we sometimes even think G-d doesn’t see who we are.
This can cause us to feel distant from G-d
They perverted the image of G-d and they became perverted
When in reality G-d is always near.
- Where can I go from your presence - heaven you are there…sheol your are there also.
- Can anyone hide from me, do I not fill the heaven and the earth?
Rabbi Paul says in - yet He is not very far from us. For in Him we live and move and have our being.
And says that it is our sins that have separated us from G-d and don’t allow us to see Him.
He is always there, it is just that our sin creates the illusion that we are separated from G-d
The cure for a sin problem is
We see an example of this in Genesis.
Remember the story of Adam & Eve?
2 Corinthians 3:18
They bought into Satan’s lie and believed that G-d really didn’t love them and that He didn’t want the best for them and that He was actually hiding something from them.
They sinned and the first thing they did was to try and cover themselves and hide from G-d.
And here lies the problem, when we feel separated from G-d we begin to try to fix ourselves by our own efforts.
But that will never work.
A sin problem is a vision problem.
A sin problem is a vision problem
Adam & Eve sinned when they believed a lie about G-d
If we have an erroneous view of G-d it will lead us to erroneous behavior which will lead us to a false sense of separation from G-d
So the answer is not to try to fix ourselves the answer is to change our view of G-d

But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory—just as from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Professing to be wise, they became fools,
and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Who are we to behold as a mirror reflecting the glory of the Lord?
It is Yeshua…the image of the invisible G-d
When we see the love of G-d in Yeshua we are changed.
Loved ones, let us love one another, for love is from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. The love of God was revealed among us by this—that God sent His one and only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. This is love—not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atonement for our sins.
1 John
We see an example of this in the story of the Samaritan woman
Her sin had not only separated her from G-d it also separated her from other people
She was going out during the middle of the day to get water all by herself.
The women would go out to the well in the cool of the day together to get water.
This woman is so separated from G-d that she is also separated from everyone else.
Yeshua doesn’t rebuke her for her sins, rather He reveals the to her the lie that she had believed about G-d
“Sir,” the woman tells Him, “I see that You are a prophet! Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you all say that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
Yeshua tells her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming—it is here now—when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people as His worshipers. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The woman tells Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called the Anointed One.) When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”
Yeshua tells her, “I—the One speaking to you—I am.”
John 4:19-
Samaritans had a type of replacement theology. They thought they were the real people of G-d and they only believed the first five books of the Bible.
They believed that Moses was the greatest prophet and that he pre-existed before creation.
They were expecting a prophet “like unto Moses to come”
They also believed that the Messiah would come to the Samaritans and that he would lead the whole world to worship at Mt Gerizim.
Once Yeshua establishes Himself as the “prophet like unto Moses” the Samaritan woman is ready to receive Him as the Messiah.
Interesting, He never tells her to “go and sin no more” once she has a correct view of Messiah she can’t help but love other people.
When we truly know G-d we also can not help but love.
1 John 4:7-8

The Jewish sages tell us that when we stand before Judge we are to remember that the Judge is also our Father and the reason He gives us this time of awe and reflection is so that we can be aware of the sins that have given us the illusion that we were separated from Him so that we can return to Him again.
The Yamim Noraim are a time for us to take off the veil of separation and to see G-d for who He truly is so we can love as He loves.
The Yamim Noraim are a time for us to take off the mask and see G-d for who He truly is and see ourselves for who we truly are.
