peculiar people
not just “get by” in terms of our faith while feeling kept from something that we want
feeling free in Christ knowing that He has the best for us
and that this will change the way that we live
God’s way is the best way
talking to the women-wives last week
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.
Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does.
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? And
“If the righteous is scarcely saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.
Adorning the heart
1 Peter
Adorning the heart
The call is to seek to do the will of God
Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.
That we would no longer desire to please ourselves but that our pleasure would be in pleasing God

1 Peter
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. The end of all things is at hand
Jesus could come back any day
let us be found serving, loving, and sharing the Gospel
The people who walk in darkness
will see a great light.
For those who live in a land of deep darkness,
a light will shine.
There is hope for this world even though it seems dark
the people of God can shine the light of God amongst the darkness
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
God has been patient towards us because He desires for all to come to repentance
so our response should be like Peter & John’s response when they were told to stop sharing the message of Jesus
We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”
we are not promised another breadth
For God says,
“At just the right time, I heard you.
On the day of salvation, I helped you.”
Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.
neither are the ones who we love
we may not have another chance to tell them of the saving power of Jesus
they may not have another opportunity to hear it
WE MUST BE DILIGENT AND URGENT TO SHARE
We must have the same urgency with our actions as we do with our words...
The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. right living
usign our gifts
in love
SO THAT everything may be glorifying to God
so impatient with so many things yet we are so content without urgency in our own lives
adorn our hearts For the good of others
adorn our hearts For the good of others
So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:1-
This was specifically written to elders but message is similar for all believers
1. All Christians are responsible for their actions before God
So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.
2. We will be held accountable to God for the perception and result of our actions in others
Jesus says
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
Mark 9:42
It happens easier than you’d think
Can I share...
well a photo may be necessary because you guys would never believe me otherwise
I have a photo showing some dirt on Megan
Megan
This all started out innocently
Megan on her first ATV trip
She found mud
megan splash
She ended up not just finding mud but choosing mud
megan choices
When I saw this I went to her and said
in her defense
“Megan, I didn’t know that you liked mud so much” Be careful some of those mud holes are going to be bigger than they look
She said “I only go through the one’s that your brother Todd goes in”
1st timer following another more experienced rider
Picture of my brother Todd
He loves mud more than any human alive
I have done this before and mud was fun but it wasn’t worth the mess for me so I dodge mud when possible
following megan
thru mud on me
got to the point where I couldn’t even see clearly even though I was trying to dodge it she was splashing me
This will preach
Megan learned to go through the mud because she followed someone who was supposed to show her the ropes and he went through the mud
I found that when she could dodge mud puddles that she would choose to drive right through them
As Christians we will show new believers how to live
we teach them how to go thru the mud when our lives are full of sin
even following too close to someone in sin and trying your best to avoid it will end with some splatter
it’s a domino effect of sin
Jesus says
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
let us be beautifully adorned
let us be beautifully adorned
And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
Romans
when you share the Gospel with others
when you live right before God and man
you will be beautifully adorned before God
not just on the outside but from the inside-out
We are progressively made more like Christ by seeing and savoring his beauty.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
). The more you behold beauty, the more you become beautiful. This is why Paul said, “Whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” ().

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
