Psalm 33 *

Did you know that Atheism is one of the fastest growing religious movements in the world today?  I call it a religion because its adherents are adamant in proselytizing as many as they may.  A new movie (The Golden Compass) to be released on December 7th (just in time for Christmas) is intended to introduce children to the writings of Philip Pullman.  Pullman is an atheist whose novels portray characters having great adventures in pursuit of killing God.  Pullman hopes that this new film will create an interest in his novels.

Atheism is a natural product of evolution and humanism.  If we posit that all things came into being as the result of accident or chance then there is no good or bad, no right or wrong, and consequently no God.  If there are no absolutes, then the beliefs of atheists and humanists makes perfect sense.

You may ask how these views are gaining popularity when 85% of Americans still profess a belief in God?  Well, only a small percentage of those that believe in God also believe that He desires an intimate, personal relationship with individuals.  Most would say they are spiritual and not religious.  They are willing to embrace every religion and every philosophy in the name of open-mindedness!

Of course, the Bible tells us that God not only exists, but that He also determines the way in which He is worshipped.  Jesus declared Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life and further stated that no one could come to God except through Him!  What does all this have to do with you and me?  After all, we are believers and hold the Bible to be our guide for life.

Our view of God and His purpose determines whether or not we believe that life holds meaning.  Trust the Bible and you must believe that God selected you for this time and place.  Assume God does not exist and there is no meaning to life apart from your selfish desires and wants.  Today is a day (Veteran’s Day) set apart to remember the men and women that have given their lives in service to this nation.

A major network just completed a poll of American school age children in which they were asked how they felt about serving their country.  The overwhelming majority was of the opinion that America had never done anything for them and they felt no desire to ever serve the needs of their country.  I am distressed that so few young people now feel a love for their country.  This mindset opens the door to those that would destroy the America I love.  This nation is even now in the process of ceasing to exist.  When God ceases to be our Lord (vs. 12) we are finished.

For those that would deny that America was and is a Christian nation I offer these proofs:

1.      The Mayflower Compact (fig. 1)

Spain, France, and Portugal came to our shores seeking wealth.  The Pilgrims came in search of a place to worship Almighty God!  Which effort propered?

2.      The Declaration of Independence (fig. 2)

Human beings are the result of Divine creation.  The Founding Fathers felt this belief defined their reason for separating from Great Britain.

3.      The Constitution of the United States (fig. 3)

The colonists declared themselves, “One nation under God.”  The Bill of Rights that is so much in the mouths of Atheists and Antis resulted from the desires of believing statesmen to insure that the rights granted by God should forever rule in America.

On Veteran’s Day, we recall the men and women that have given of their time, their resources, their blood, and even their lives in service to their fellow man.  Normally reserved for those that have worn the uniforms of America’s military, Veteran’s Day is really for everyone that acknowledges God and His purpose for this nation.  We are all veterans of Christian service if we have sought to do His will and offered Him our lives.
