The New Revised Standard Version Unity in the Body of Christ

Unity in the Body of Christ

4 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

Paul the Apostle instructs us to walk worthy of the calling in which we have been called. One might ask who is called. Often times we equate the calling to a minsitry assignment. We see later on in this Chapter Paul states that he gave some to Apostles, some to be Prophets, some to be Evangelists and some to be Pastors and Teachers. But what about the rest of us. If we look in the book of Acts we also see that some were called to be deacons to assist the Apostles with serving the people along side of them. Many of us think that we do not have an assignment and we are not called.
I want to let you know that we all have a calling and we are called to something. We are called to be in unity with one another. The scripture teaches is that we are to be one body. The Church of our Lord Jesus Christ is one. In our bodies we have many organs and extremities that need to use together in order for the body to be as one. Even though the hand does not look like the head, but if the head and hand work together the body will more readily accomplish the task that it sets out to accomplish.
Along with one body we are called to have one spirit. Many people are part of different groups. When you look at the organization or team if you will, the most successful one have the same spirit. They react the same, they think the same and they function the same. That is how God wants his church or the body of believers to function with one another. With the same mind and the same spirit. Like Peter and John when you look upon us you can tell we have been with Jesus.
We are called to serve one Lord. We are to serve the one true and living God. Here you o Israel the Lord God is one God. We see that one God manifested in the person and humanity of Jesus. We understand that there is only one name under the heavens in which we must be saved.
Along with the one Lord there is but one faith in which we must adhere to. As we are having this ecumenical service which simply means multiple bodies or groups unity under the same faith in the one Lord. It is the faith in one Lord that unites us.
Also there is the one baptism. Scripturally we might notice two baptism formulas but there is only one baptism purpose. That is the baptism for the remission of sins and the outward acknowledgement of the inward change in the people.
Finally we are called to the one God and father of All. God sent us Jesus as it is written in , for God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosever believe in him shall not parish but have everlasting life. It is further stated that the God and Father of all who above and through us and in us through the Holy Ghost. We see the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit operating in unity and inviting us to operate in unity with one another so we can truly see the power of God present in our lives.
If you right now where you are don’t know this power I invite you to a relationship with this power ..
Repeat this prayer after me.
Father,God in the Name of Jesus, I come to you as a sinner. Please forgive me for all my wrong doings and sins that I have committed knowingly and unknowingly. Heavenly Father, your Word says "...him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" (). Again, your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved" (). So I am asking you now to come into my heart and save me, in the Name of Jesus. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He died for my sins and rose again that I might have life and have it more abundantly. Your Word also says, "If I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (). I now confess Jesus as Lord of my Life, " for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" ()
Thank-you Lord for saving me!
If you have prayed this prayer with me you are now saved.
Benediction
