I - My bad Money Management.
I - My bad Money Management.
Intro: I can still remember being 17 years old, standing at the ATM in the Chapel Hills Mall in my hometown reading the words. “Insufficient Funds” after trying to withdraw $20 in cash...
STORY - The greatest resturant on earth
I had spent ALL of the money that was supposed to cover my Clothes, Gas, school lunches, and anything else I needed for the entire year. What was I going to do?
Y - We are so captured by the immediate, we trade more for less every time.

Transition: Hopefully none of you have ever done anything so ridiculous. But I’ll bet something similar has happened.

Transition: The thing I love about this book is that even though its 1000s of years old. Somehow it still connects to the very things I struggle with today. That is no small feat, but it turns out that people have been making this kind of mistake for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. In fact one of the main themes that ties the whole story of the bible together has to do with this habit we have.
The Story - Jacob and Esau
Read it/Tell it
Ok so what does this have to do with anything?
Esau trades his blessing, for immediate gratification. He trades blessing for dinner. Like the episode of the Simpsons where Bart sells his soul for 5 bucks.
So what blessing are they talking about? The blessing of Abraham - I WILL BLESS YOU to BLESS THE WORLD - Quick overview of OT story
for that we have to turn back a few pages.
The blessing of Abraham - I WILL BLESS YOU to BLESS THE WORLD - Quick overview of OT story
That same blessing has now passed from Abraham, to his oldest son Issac, and now to his oldest son Esau.
Background - The blessing of Abraham - I WILL BLESS YOU to BLESS THE WORLD - Quick overview of OT story
It all goes back to the first pages of the bible.
God chooses a FAMILY through which he is going to save the world
The Story - Jacob and Esau
The Story REPEATED throughout OT
Adam and Eve - do the same thing on page two
Cain and Able - on page three
Noah - On Page nine
Abraham
Isrealites at the Foot of the Mountain

Prodigal Son
Over and Over again God’s people. People with every advantage, every reason to trust fall victim just like Esau.
Prodigal Son
Pointish: The Bible tells it like it is, its really good at illustrating the PROBLEM sometimes.
The whole bible seems to be trying to make a point over and over again and in different ways
(God wants more for us but we are so easily fooled by lesser things, how do we break free?)
(God wants more for us but we are so easily fooled by lesser things, how do we break free?) The story of the bible is about God’s work REDEEMING and TRANSFORMING people like you and me who are often all to ready to settle for LESS that what is being OFFERED.
Jesus makes it possible - We are made for more than what we often accept, the good news is, Jesus makes it possible. We dont have to settle
And the offer is MORE THAN WE CAN IMAGINE
