EYEWITNESSES
EYEWITNESSES
AS we continue to study Peters epistles, we take note that Peter reminds us of who we are in CHRIST, who he is in CHRIST, and who we should continue to be in CHRIST.

'For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, "This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased"- and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.'
17 For when HE received honor and glory from GOD the Father, such an utterance as this was made to HIM by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”—
18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,
21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
Verse 16 addresses the possibility of the Bible being a series of conspired stories to coerce us into believing the Gospel. However, those who think that disregard the facts:
1 - how could 12 carry this lie consistently and spread so correctly...
2 - the details are too clearly corroborated and proven by modern methods...
New American Standard Bible: 1995 update. (1995). (). La Habra, CA: The Lockman Foundation.
3 - there are too many whop have seen the same things as reported in the gospel
4 - the truth is hard to accept, what truth are they holding onto for hope?
It is unfounded hope in themselves and the strength they believe to have inwardly. It is hard to trust that someone is control, knows your life plan…socialism? NO…GOD THE FATHER, who knew us before we were born.
What is our hope in? JESUS, who died for us and returned 3 days later so that we will, not may, WILL have hope in HIM.
JESUS died for us and returned 3 days later so that we will, not may, WILL have hope in HIM.

-Verses 17-18…JESUS, when HE was baptized, was proclaimed by our GOD that “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”—and it was heard by many…quite a tale, huh?
Let’s think, for a second, about these series of events Peter is describing...
Matther 17:1-5 describes the transfiguration of JESUS...
'Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, I will make three tabernacles here, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah." While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!" '

Imagine seeing this yourself. Peter, as an eyewitness to this, was changed in his belief. Moses and Elijah were also caught up to GOD…Moses re[resenting the Jewish Law and Elijah representing the Prophets.
The voice came from above…from heaven, confirming JESUS as the Son of GOD.

Verse 19…Peter says we must recognize this more, and it gives us hope (the day dawns) until the time when JESUS returns(the morning star arises).

Verses 20-21…Peter explains that none of this if from mans suggestion or mans interpretation of this event, that we couldn’t make this up, that prophecies ONLY come from GOD!!! as all written in the Bible is also...

We’ve all seen things, miraculous things, happen to others, and ourselves, and these things must not be considered as coincidences, good luck, or great timing. These good events are only the will of our Almighty GOD in HIS plan for us.
Our word to others of the good news of JESUS, and how HE has helped us, been an advocate for us…died for us... must be considered valid and truthful as these verses validate Peters words to us…as should the entire Bible.
Let’s pray...
