THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE BELIEVER
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
THE HOLY GHOST IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER
THE HOLY GHOST IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER
I. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONVICTION—
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
JOHN 16:8-11
A. He convicts people of sin
Men are born in sin—.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
The Holy Spirit shows man he is a sinner and that he should turn to God’s goodness.
B. He convicts the world of sin
The sin of the world is unbelief and rejection of Christ.
C. He offers deliverance from judgment—v. 10.
Because Christ ascended into heaven and the Comforter came, righteousness is available for those who turn to God.
D. He convicts the person of sin—v. 11.
Satan has already been judged.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONVERSION
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONVERSION
A. Pardon by Spirit—.
Being born of the water and the Spirit, is the only way to enter God’s kingdom. The water stands for refreshment and the Spirit provides redemption and regeneration.
B. Power of the Spirit—.
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
We had nothing to do with our salvation, other than accepting Christ. It is the Spirit that regenerates and makes man a new creature in Christ. Paul speaks of this in .
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
C. Practice of the Spirit—.
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
God places within man a man a new spirit.

III. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CLEANSING
A. Saved by the Savior—. Notice the importance of “being in Christ.”
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
B. Secured by the Spirit—. The Spirit gives evidence that we are the children of God.
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
IV. THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONTROLLING
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONTROLLING
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONTROLLING
The Holy Spirit wants to control God’s people, however He will not force Himself upon any man.
A. Favor of the Spirit—.
We are assured that we are children of God by having His Spirit dwelling in us.
Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
B. Fruit of the Spirit—, .
The nine fruits come as the result of being filled with and living in the Spirit.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN COMPLETION
THE HOLY SPIRIT IN COMPLETION
A. Healing for the soul.
Jesus spoke of man losing his soul ().
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
However, through faith, we can have our souls restored. David spoke of this in .
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
B. Healing for the body—.
But he was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities:
The chastisement of our peace was upon him;
And with his stripes we are healed.
Christ paid the price for our healing. He wants us to be healthy.
C. Healing for the mind.
We keep our minds healthy by allowing the Holy Spirit to control them. (See .)
Let the words of my mouth,
And the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight,
O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
