John 21:1-14
The third time Jesus revealed Himself to disciples between resurrection and ascension.
They didnt recognize Him from such a distance.
He was still calling to them.
Still teaching them.
Still loving them.
Symbolism of night still being used in John; only when Jesus addresses them in the morning do they have success in fishing.
So the difference between the dark of night (failure in fishing) and the light of day (success in fishing) is seen here.
We will not judge whether these 7 were right or wrong for going fishing.
I’m sure you’ve heard it preached that Jesus had called them away from fishing for fish.
And you’ve likely heard it preached that they were simply doing what they knew to do.
Even when we are smack dab in the middle of His will, He uses circumstances to reveal more about Himself.
To build the faith of believers.
This is definitely that.

Holman uses ‘Men’.
NIV uses ‘Friends’.
Both those miss the intimacy of ‘Children’.
See how Jesus calls to us?
Not belittling.
Loving.
Intimate.
Paidia was an expression of intimacy as between a parent and child.
He had worked for all His ministry to move them from novelty of a miracle worker to intimacy.
We need to move from novelty to intimacy with our Lord.
With each other.

Believers have the benefit of being connected to Jesus.

Jesus has called us to be fishers of men.
We may not, in this life, know how many we ‘caught’.
But rest assured!
One day we will know exactly how many are with us in glory because of the word of our testimony.
