Exodus 20:14 ESV
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
Exodus 20:18 ESV
18 Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood far off
1 Corinthians 7:1–5 CSB
1 Now in response to the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to use a woman for sex.” 2 But because sexual immorality is so common, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman should have sexual relations with her own husband. 3 A husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise a wife to her husband. 4 A wife does not have the right over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband does not have the right over his own body, but his wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another—except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
1 Corinthians 7:6 ESV
6 Now as a concession, not a command, I say this.
1 Corinthians 7:7 ESV
7 I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.
s by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
I. Intimacy in marriage (V.1-2)
1 Corinthians 7:1–2 ESV
1 Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” 2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.

“Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: V. 1a “
-This statement sugusts that the church of correnth had sent some kind of inquarry to Paul wondering about adultery. and the relationship between men and Women.
-The church in corenth had raised several questions for paul, here he deals with marriage and deals with it as it is a normal way of life.
“It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”
B. Temptation
2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality,
-due to the history and time period this was written Paul may have been refering to prostitution here.
C. Own husband and wife
each man should have his own wife
and each woman her own husband.
Because of the culture in Corenth it would have been verry hard for an unmaried person to remain Pure
remembe today if you are single it that is what God has for you now, and it is better to wish you were married than to wish you were not.
To Be clear Paul is not saying here that this is the only reason for marriage, but he is dealing with it in retrospect to a specific question that has been asked.
II. Giving in Marriage (V.3-4)
1 Corinthians 7:3–4 CSB
3 A husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise a wife to her husband. 4 A wife does not have the right over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband does not have the right over his own body, but his wife does.
This problum is discussed by Paul because of the fact that unsatisfied husbands were getting their satisfaction in the local proostitution. Married men and Women have pledge therir bodies to Christ and then there spouses they do not have authority over their own bodies.
A Godly loving husband does not take advantage of his wife, but is focused on loving and careing for her.
Each partner in marriage has duties to the other Paul does not stress the duity of either partner at the expence of the other which would have been a noteworthy position in a maled- dominated socioty . The word he uses is a present imparitive indicating this is a continues comand not a one time comand. The significant item here is that paul stresses giving instead of getting in marriage marriage is all about giving of oneself to another
Neither Wifes or Husbands have the right over their bodies but have obligations to one another
III. Stop Depriving each other (V. 5)
1 Corinthians 7:5 CSB
5 Do not deprive one another—except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
1 cor 7:5
Paul exhorts the believers in Corenth not not deprive eachother of intemente relations, and that doing so could lead into tempration
There however, may arise occations where both spouces mutually agree to abstain from normal intercouse in order to give themselves whole hartedly to prayer. but this is clearly an exception each belongs to the other so fully that paul calls the witholding an act of fraud.
I. Initial instruction
“It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”
“It is good for a man not to use a woman for sex.”
In the business of life it may be importent at times to take exceptinal mesures to have a quiet time with God, but for a married coupple breaking off of normal relations even for a holy puropse can only be done by mutual concent and they must come together again.
2 But because of the temptation to sexual immorality,
2 But because sexual immorality is so common,
Depriving one another makes you easy pray for satin and he may come after you based on lack of self control
each man should have sexual relations with his own wife,
each man should have his own wife
and each woman her own husband.
and each woman should have sexual relations with her own husband.
3 A husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife,
3 The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4 For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
and likewise a wife to her husband.
II. The Body
4 A wife does not have the right over her own body, but her husband does.
In the same way, a husband does not have the right over his own body, but his wife does.
5 Do not deprive one another—except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer.
but his wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another—except when you agree for a time, to devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Then come together again; otherwise, Satan may tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
