I love this youth group, and I love our times on Wednesday nights.
Tonight though, I want to talk to you all about living a fatihful Christian life!
as we talk about “WELL DONE” I want to show you something.
How will you use the DASH?
If you lack faithfulness, you lack character. And if you lack character, you need to check up.
If you lack faithfulness, you lack character. And if you lack character, you need to check up.
Jesus is using a parable to describe what a faithful Christian looks like.
1. The Master
1. The Master
a) Rich
a) Rich
Talent = 6,000 denarii
Talent = 6,000 denarii
6,000 denarii = 20 Years To Earn
6,000 denarii = 20 Years To Earn
This Master Jesus is describing is extremely wealthy and had more than enough to give to His servants.
For us, to apply this to our lives we need to remember that these talents represent our life.
b) Resourceful
b) Resourceful
Not only was this man extremely rich, but he was also resourceful to recognize that these men had specific abilities to use.
v. 15 - “according to his several ability.”
So we already said these talents represent our life. We are rich with time to spend, right?
but what Resources do we have to allow us to use?
Time, Money, Abilities, Car, Sports, Music, anything!
Time, Money, Abilities, Car, Sports, Music, anything!
c) Returning
c) Returning
v. 19 - “After a long time the lord of those servant cometh...”
Who is this Master a picture of?
Jesus!!
Jesus the King of kings, and Lord of lords and came to this earth for you! He lived a perfect life and after rising from the Tomb on the third day has gone to a far country… ya feel me??
And He’s coming back!
2. The Faithful Servants
2. The Faithful Servants
verses 16-23
Anytime a phrase is repeated in the Bible, you know it’s important...
The faithfulness of the servants was:
a) Noticeable
a) Noticeable
how was it noticeable? —> they did their work consistently, successfully, and were ready to give an account!
and they did the small things:
v. 21 & 23. “You were faithful over a few things...”
If you sense the call into ministry, do the small things.
If you sense God wants you to be a doctor, start learning about the human body.
As a Christian, we are expected to do the small things...
Are you reading your Bible, memorizing Scripture, and praying?
You may say “Hayden that’s a lot!” - but Jesus said “Apart from Me you cannot do anything.” - Why try and prove Him wrong?
b) Selfless
b) Selfless
When the Master returned the two servants went to Him and they did two things:
They gave back what was the Master’s!
Who gave them the talents?
The Master.
“You were faithful over a few things...”
If you sense the call into ministry, do the small things.
What did they do when the Master showed up… Hey Master, here’s what you gave me, and here’s what I did with it!!
If you sense God wants you to be a doctor, start reading and learning more about the human body.
It’s all yours!
If you sense God wants you to be a professional athlete, wake up a little earlier and go hit, run, lift.
Lord, you gave me 80 years to live, and i’m going to do whatever I can do give it back to You!
but either way, for the Christian, we HAVE to do the small things!
Are you reading your Bible, are you praying, are you memorizing Scripture?
These are things God has called us to do… the small things so we can get back to
c) Rewarding
c) Rewarding
verses 21&23 are two of the greatest verses in the world.
they are repeated so you know it’s important!
The Master said, “Well done good and faithful...”
It’s not “well done good and BRILLIANT or GOOD LOOKING, or ATHLETIC.”
“Enter into the joy of the Lord.”
The reward was: Praise, Promise, and Heaven!
The reward was: Praise, Promise, and Heaven!
3. The Lazy Servant
3. The Lazy Servant
The last man is hearing this conversation to the Master, and speaks up and says what we see in verses 24-25.
Notice what things happen to this man:
a) Excuses
a) Excuses
The Master looks at him and he begins to make excuses.
Excuses come from not completely trusting God.
Excuses come from not completely trusting God.
“I was afraid...”
why?
“You are a hard man...”
You don’t know the true master
and He is the owner of it all anyways.
Excuses also make us believe a lie.
Excuses also make us believe a lie.
“I just kept Your money safe, because I knew You would be happy with that!”
b) Judged
b) Judged
verse 26 - “Thou wicked and lazy servant.”
if it would have been a group decision, they would have started with 8 talents, and ended with 15. that’s really good, right?!
Don’t waste the dash!
