Introduction
Choosing theatre over baseball.
Made a list of which one I liked more.
How should you feel about material possessions?
Big Idea:
What should you value?
God or the world?
You should value God because God satisfies ultimately, nothing but God satisfies, God does not satisfy apart from our full devotion.
God is the only source of ultimate satisfaction.
I.e.
What you work to receive you value.
It can be earthly or heavenly.
There is a dichotomy here.
"Seek first the kingdom."
satisfaction in your wife is temporary
satisfaction in your job is temporary
satisfaction in your school work is temporary
satisfaction in your home is temporary
the only thing that lasts if making treasure in God's realm.
God likes a loving husband, so this can be done because I value God, and it doesn't have to be a totally unnatural thinking process.
It just means actively make treasure where God says so becsause you like Him.
So, because I prefer God to anything else I try to be the best husband I can be.
This means while I'm making breakfast I dn't have to be thinking "i'm doing this for God" I can do it for Maddie but because i want to be a good husband for God i am storing up treasures in heaven.
this still means something as far as real treasure goes
Not this but the maker of this is the desire of my soul.
Nothing but God satisfies.
if the thing your eyes are set on is not God, but you are distrated in this world, how great of darkness are you in.
God does not satisfy apart from our full devotion.
You were only made for one great passion, so it can be God or not God, you choose.
"lose your life to find it"
You ought to value God more than the world because God satisfies ultimately and nothing but God satisfies and God satisfies only when served alone.
This life as a laboratory for faith is an opprotunity to say "God I trust that you are worth it and will live valuing you above everything else here."
