Until this point God had always raised up a man to lead the nation.
Now Israel demands a king, after comparing themselves with the surrounding nations.
They wanted to be like the other nations for three reasons (their king would judge them, go before them, and fight their battles).
All of these God had promised to do for them.
One of the major causes of discontentment is comparing ourselves to others.
God had a plan to give them a king, but they rejected God’s leadership.
Their sin was revealed to them during the time of the harvest ().

A Heart that Waits for God’s Direction ()
Saul felt he was in an desperate situation and had to act immediately before things became impossible.
God specializes in the impossible!
He convinced himself he was alone (soldiers deserting), abandoned (Samuel wasn’t coming), and under attack (the Philistines were gathering).
He had to act now!
We often let our circumstances or our desires to dictate our actions, rather than waiting on God.
A young person yields to temptation sexually convinced that this is the only person who will love them.
God allows us to get in desperate situations so that we learn to wait and trust Him!
Remember your God!
He is the Eternal, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Gracious God!
